With deportation raids sending a chill across farm country, the Trump administration wants to make it easier for U.S. farms to hire migrant workers, angering critics across the political spectrum.
On January 1, new emergency rules took effect, allowing U.S. farms to hire more workers and pay less in wages for migrants coming in on H-2A temporary labor visas.
Speaking during a visit to Louisiana this week, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins framed the changes as a way to help farmers struggling to find U.S. workers in the absence of deeper congressional reforms.
We are working to make very quick change as quickly as we can to basically open up the market so that these labor questions can be resolved, Rollins said.

Like this Iran "war", they insist on carrying out draconian measures out of sheer foaming-at-the-mouth hate, revenge, and arrogance, and then are forced to scramble to "fix" the problem that strategy causes when the actual results are catastrophic.
If ICE is already IGNORING people here legally with work permits, let alone those who are actual CITIZENS, what makes them think they will stop doing so by doling out H-2A Visas? As long as their main targeting mechanism is by racial profiling, the problem will continue.

(8,902 posts). . . which is:
(1) create a new problem (or greatly exacerbate an existing one);
(2) take a few tiny steps to try to ameliorate it; and
(3) then take credit for being the 'ONLY" administration that ever tried to do anything about the problem this administration created or exacerbated!

(841 posts)He petitioned for more workers for his businesses as well and offered lower wages. Get rid of people making the higher wages, bring in people who will be paid lower wages. Except that they might not get that many takers.
