Former Iran detainees fear Americans held in Iranian prisons face heightened danger

Source: CBS News

March 20, 2026 / 3:45 PM EDT

Former Iran detainee Siamak Namazi says he's worried about the handful of Americans known to be held inside Iranian prisons as the U.S. war in Iran continues.

"They are the easiest-to-grab punching bag right now in the hands of that rogue regime," he said during a panel discussion with "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan." "I think this is a dangerous time," said Namazi. He added, "For a hostage or wrongfully detained citizen abroad, their biggest fear is to be forgotten, and this is a very dangerous time for them, with all that's going on in Washington's mind."

Namazi was detained in Iran's notorious Evin prison in 2015 after almost eight years of captivity, the longest-held American prisoner to be released from Iran. The State Department determined that he had been wrongfully detained.

Emad Shargi, who was held in Iran for five years, recalled being in the Evin prison in October 2022, as massive anti-government protests seized the country. Mahsa Amini, 22, had been arrested for allegedly wearing a hijab incorrectly and died in police custody. Authorities said she had a heart attack, but her family said police beat her to death. Shargi said it's a "very uncomfortable situation" inside the prison when there's unrest outside.

and "Live Updates" are NOT allowed to be posted as a source in LBN.

The CBS article was originally published at 3:45 pm ET Friday (or so they claim - many times these articles aren't "visible" on the news home pages until hours or even days later while they waste space on links of multiple reporters discussing the same subject).

Last Sunday. It's still self promotion.

Keep the faith, BRDS. EVERYTHING is such a mess.

Rock On.

this applies to assuming "all" CBS employees, including reporters, are MAGats as well.

I'm not going to broad brush groups of innocent employees over what their fucking billionaire company owners do.

as he live-blogged from outside of the courtrooms during many of the J6 insurrectionist terrorists' trials, as well as doing the same during some of the grand juries of the more well known J6 criminals. I am glad that he went on and jumped ship and became an indie reporter.

He represents what the formerly widely expected and true standard of journalistic excellence was and should be.

I'm glad he exists, too, and is continuing to carry his talents and the torch of truth elsewhere. He may even end up being one of our future greats.

I honestly fear for the lives of these brave souls.

Telling the truth should not come with such a high price. But it does.
