Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner (D) threatened to throw ICE agents deployed at the airport in jail if they make it look anything like you did in the streets of Minneapolis on Tuesday. Krasner issued his stern warning in front of cameras and reporters at Phillys airport.
His tough talk came a day after President Donald Trump deployed ICE agents to several airports nationwide to help with long security lines during the ongoing government shutdown. Krasner told the ICE agents Trump cannot save them if they screw up in his town.
This is how it works you commit crimes within the jurisdiction that is the city and county of Philadelphia, I prosecute you. That is how it works. No, I dont take a phone call from the president saying Let em go. No, the president cannot pardon you. Ill say it again, the president cannot pardon you, said Krasner.
The DA continued, And yes, I will put you in handcuffs and I will put you in a courtroom, and if necessary, I will put you in a jail cell if you decide to make the terrazzo floor of this floor anything like you did in the streets of Minneapolis, which involved the criminal homicide of unarmed, innocent people. He then doubled down on his comments in a video posted to X on Wednesday.

Philly DA Larry Krasner threatens ICE agents working at the airport with arrest:
"The president cannot pardon you. I will put you in handcuffs. And if necessary, I will put you in a jail cell."
Krasner was promising to hunt down ICE agents like Nazis a couple of months ago.

(3,714 posts)Now THAT's courage and conviction! Every DA and AG should be putting out statements like this, with the same level of certainty and firmness, when ICE deploys in their jurisdictions.
Good on him! C'mon Dem officeholders - pile on!!

(17,546 posts)So where are all of these States Rights people (especially Repugs who always cry States Rights! when a Dem. administration proposes a progressive idea) who are in DC to serve the people?
Oh, right - Donny might get mad at me - who cares about the people Im supposed to serve

(18,563 posts)We'll see how Philadelphia LEOs hold to that warning when ICE exceeds its authority. There's enough weasel-words in the statement to permit a complete 180.

It seems the biggest instigator of that bullshit was Bovino, who is essentially reduced to doing pan-handling for some attention nowadays after his "exit".

(22,565 posts)Would you mind pointing them out? I just rewatched both videos, and I don't see anything except a very clear warning that ICE agents will be prosecuted by the Philly DA if they misbehave there, and a reminder that Trump will not be able to help them. What am I missing?

(18,563 posts)Also "If it becomes necessary." Basically, any "if" statement gives them room to wriggle out. You or I may say "Hey, they just shot a defenseless man lying on the sidewalk in the back" is a crime, but they can obfuscate and qualify and weasel their way out, if they want to.
So the question becomes whether the will is there to actually carry out their threats, or if it's just optics. Since these days, almost everything is just optics, I'm skeptical.

(22,565 posts)I kinda see what you mean, but I didn't get that vibe.
I can see that he weighed his words carefully, but that's just something lawyers do. They are trained to see a million nuances that you and I would miss and to be aware of every possible ramification of whatever they're saying. With that in mind, saying that he WILL prosecute "if they break the law" sounds pretty straightforward to me. Some of the other statements like "if you get out of line" are more vague, but that one sounds about as unequivocal as he probably feels he's able to be. I don't see any reason to think he doesn't mean that. He sounds like a prosecutor, and that's how prosecutors talk, in my experience.

(6,974 posts)and there were numerous witnesses and videos to those.
When their leadership encourages, covers up and promotes violations of the law and the federal attorneys lie and hide information from judges as well as violating court orders, then the whole department is conducting illegal operations.

(8,734 posts)First, do you really think the local LEOs will do this? Very unlikely. Even if they do, imagine them trying to arrest ICE. What if the ICE goons refuse to surrender? Are we going to have a shootout between local LEOs and ICE? It is just not going to happen.
The good thing about his tough stance is that it may cause ICE to behave. However, if it goes south, all bets are off.

(169,452 posts)if they operate WITHIN THE LAW and not do a multi-agent beat-down against PROTESTORS like was done in Minneapolis, then they won't have anything to worry about.
They were also warned by the city Sheriff NOT to enter the city's court buildings without a warrant. If they do, HER officers will arrest them.
As I mentioned elsewhere, when they drop-kicked Bovino out of his post and sent him back to TX to eventually go bye bye, stuff started calming down.
