A new Republican-backed political ad set to debut on Sunday pushes back against President Trumps suggestion that he would nationalize state elections. The Power Grab campaign from RightCount Action will run on Fox News and Newsmax on Sunday, before rolling out onto digital platforms.
The 30-second ad, shared exclusively with The Hill before the campaigns launch, features Republicans speaking out against federal infringement in state election processes. One clip from the 2022 U.S. Senate debate in Florida shows Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying, I do not want a federal takeover of our election system.
The segment also features recent quotes from congressional leadership, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, in which the leaders stress the importance of maintaining state-run elections. Trump has taken several recent steps to exert control over state election processes, after he told former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino earlier this year that he would like Republicans to take over voting in over a dozen states.
On Tuesday, the president signed an executive order mandating each state create a list of all eligible voters and restrict their approvals for absentee ballot requests to people confirmed on that list. The presidents attempts to crack down on mail-in voting have drawn criticism from election officials, Democrats and even some Republican legislators. Former Republican House members Matt Salmon (Ariz.) and Lou Barletta (Penn.) stressed the importance of maintaining a separation between state and federal elections ahead of the midterms in a joint statement shared with The Hill.

(4,305 posts)... cannot legally do that. But the only people with the power to stop him, at least right now, are just as vile and despicable as he is.
Yes, I'm looking at ALL of you, every Republican that Satan ever defecated. When he goes down, you go down with him, and it is as inevitable as sunrise; you're done.
As the old saying goes, it's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop. Vlad loves that one.

(41,710 posts)I think it's because so many of their voters are seniors and shut-ins. Don't know for sure.
But Chump came along and suddenly he learned that mail-in ballots meant more & easier voting for DEMOCRATS. So he was against it and he turned the MAGAs against it too. After 3 presidential elections with mailed ballots he realizes he's lost that battle.
So now he wants to "federalize" our elections, with is completely unconstitutional. But the main point is that CHEATING is the only way they can win. They cannot be given the chance to institutionalize their scheme of cheating. "Shut the fuck up Donny!"

(14,693 posts)And so should you.....to avoid the 'hanging chads' and the multiple different systems in different States. Some weaker than others in some areas, some weaker in others. The inconsistency.
It makes sense in a security way to have a set of minimum standards and checks and balances that all States must abide by in order for the public to have confidence.
But in 'merica, if the federal government took over it, most of you would scream bloody murder.
Now of course Trump is attempting this for far more sinster reasons. So he can manipulate the results, and declare some districts results fraudulent etc. But it doesn't negate the fact that you really should have national standards across all States.
