Kanye West denied entry to UK, Wireless Festival canceled
Source: ABC News
The annual U.K. music event Wireless Festival has been canceled after rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was denied entry to the country, with the U.K. Home Office stating that Ye's presence in the country "would not be conducive to the public good."
The cancellation comes amid backlash to Ye's presence at the festival following antisemitic comments he made previously praising Nazis and denigrating Jewish people.
In a statement to ABC News on Tuesday, the U.K. Home Office said, "Kanye West made an application to travel to the UK yesterday via an Electronic Travel Authorisation. The Government has blocked West's permission to travel, and he does not hold a valid ETA."
"The decision was made on the grounds that his presence in the UK would not be conducive to the public good," the interior ministry added.

(114,045 posts)I guess that is too much to hope for. Honestly, there is little about which I can offer sympathy to Kim Kardashian, but having to deal with Kanye the rest of her children's lives...Yeah, I can sympathize on that score.

(106,259 posts)Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has taken a couple of big steps towards turning his career around.
He sold out two shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles this past week, earning $33 million, according to people familiar with the numbers. His Friday show earned more than $18 million in ticket sales, said the people, who declined to be identified because the data hasnt been cleared for public release. That is one of the highest-grossing single shows in live music history.
Two packed shows could be seen as a stunt or an aberration. For all his recent problems, Ye still has loyal followers. But its not just the ticket sales. His new album, Bully, is going to be one of the best-selling albums in its debut week.
Corporations, most of whom had distanced themselves from Ye, are willing to do business with him again. Spotify put songs from Bully on its top playlists. The song Father was the top track on RapCaviar and was in the top 20 on Todays Top Hits. Live Nation, the worlds largest concert promoter, is partners with hip-hop impresario Rod Wave, whose company promoted the LA shows.

antisemitic remarks Ye made in the past?!?!?!
So the 11 whole months since his "Heil Hitler" song makes all that ancient history.

(7,946 posts)The usual British official statement, a firm but understated declaration of their intentions.
In short, other countries are looking at who they let in from the US.
As if the US has been declared a hostile and disruptive semi-terrorist state, and people with a known history will not be acceptable for entry into the UK.
