'We got our butts kicked': Republicans reckon with Democratic success ahead of the midterms

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The bluntest assessment of Republican failures during this week’s elections in Wisconsin came from one of their own.

“We got our butts kicked,” said U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is running for governor.

He was referring to Democratic victories in campaigns for the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the mayor’s office in Waukesha, a conservative suburb outside Milwaukee. But some Republicans were also rattled by a special election in Georgia, where their candidate to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress won by a much slimmer margin than the party enjoyed in the past.

Taken together, the swings from red to blue added more data points to an increasingly clear picture of Democratic momentum heading into the November midterms, when control of the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate and state governments around the country are up for grabs.

“In rural, urban, red, blue, Democrats have overperformed everywhere,” said Jared Leopold, a Democratic consultant whose clients include Keisha Lance Bottoms, a candidate for Georgia governor. “That is a significant canary in the coal mine about what November of ’26 is going to look like.”

started thinking what is good for average Americans, and the stability of the world in general, they would find the people more willing to vote for them.

I mean, just today, Trump started talking about "his next military conquest" at the same time that Republicans are doing everything in their power to block the war powers act.

Everybody needs to understand that "all politics is local" is complete bullshit in 2026. It was never literally true and now most cities barely have a locally owned newspaper or TV station. Everything is global. Information travels in milliseconds. And when politicians commit crimes, we may not be able to stop it immediately, but we can all learn about it in hours, rather than years later.

2026 is not the same as 1985, when most of the political leaders learned their craft.

from them. Mr trump won't let them; he's burning the same bridge they're crossing as well.

I think most of 'em are fingers-crossing that voter depression is their last, nest hope... from faithless questions of the legitimacy of voting to faithless questioning whether a mid-term election will even occur, the variations of this depression agenda will be legion.

Americans who aren't white straight males and America itself, you might stop getting your butts kicked.

Warning to Dems: please, please, please stop acting like we have November in the bag. Yes,we are doing well, very well, and that is a good thing to build on, but November is several months away and anything can happen between now and then.
