Hollywood Rallies Against Paramount - Warner Deal as Industry Fears Mount

Source: Los Angeles Magazine

A growing wave of opposition is forming across Hollywood as the proposed Paramount Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery faces new scrutiny, not just from regulators but from the creative community itself.

More than 1,000 actors, writers, directors and industry professionals have signed an open letter voicing what they describe as “unequivocal opposition” to the deal, which is valued at roughly $110 billion and would combine two of the industry’s most historic studios.

The letter, which has circulated widely in recent days, frames the merger as part of a broader trend of consolidation that many in Hollywood believe is already shrinking opportunities. Signatories argue the deal would lead to fewer jobs, reduced competition and less creative output at a time when the industry is still recalibrating after strikes, layoffs and a streaming slowdown.

High-profile names, including filmmakers and actors have joined the effort, signaling that concern over the deal extends well beyond labor groups and into the upper tiers of the industry.

...marry (merge) with as many corporations as they choose, while we mere people can marry only one other person at a time? Doesn't seem fair.

They also get to live eternally, which isn't an option for those of us who are real.

In theory corporations could be prohibited from political spending by any state willing to do so. The Citizens United Supreme Court decision usurps the states' right to regulate corporations within their state boundaries.

These monopolies have not made entertainment and journalism better. They've only contributed to the "enshittification" of everything. We need to repeal the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
