CENTER CITY, Minn. Union workers for Chisago County have officially begun a strike after unsuccessful collective bargaining negotiations.
In a press release Friday, Local 320 said they are going on strike because of "deteriorating workplace conditions, the Countys failure to meaningfully address employee complaints, as well as continued grievance and arbitration disputes."
This strike is the direct result of Chisago Countys ongoing attitude against its employees, Erik Skoog, Secretary-Treasurer and Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 320, said in a press release. They continue to act as though we are the problem, but the reality is they forced our hand. This strike didnt have to happen. It could have been avoided if they had honored their commitments and treated our members with the same respect they afford themselves.
The strike notice that was submitted at the beginning of April applies to workers in the Health and Human Services Unit and the Government Center Professionals Unit, Local 320 said. The Teamsters Union represents 170 workers.
