'Get the children away': Outrage breaks out over Trump's startling remarks around kids

Source: Raw Story

May 5, 2026 4:13PM ET

People were stunned on Tuesday after President Donald Trump started touting his unpopular Iran war and discussing it in front of a group of children in the Oval Office.

The kids were at the White House to celebrate Trump's signing of a proclamation to restore the Presidential Fitness Test award, and in the press briefing, the president ranted about trans athletes in youth sports, then attempted to make his case for the Middle East conflict.

Media experts were astounded by Trump's comments, with some calling out the president for his misinformation and decision to talk with children about adult topics.

"He’s the LeBron James of being weird around kids," political commentator Evan loves Worf wrote on X. "These are lies. And children are being exposed," Scott MacFarlane, MeidasTouch chief Washington correspondent, wrote on X.

...exactly who he is--they got exactly what they expected and wanted.

Afterwards they probably went to President [REDACTED] with tears in their eyes to tell him how it was the most profound and wonderful thing they had ever heard anyone say to their kids....

Seth addresses Trump saying that he's not a senior citizen and more in his monologue for Tuesday, May 5, before White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt holds an impromptu press briefing to answer burning questions, like "Is President Trump excited about Don Jr.’s upcoming wedding?"

(Greatest of all Time)

It's all Millennial-speak and I expect if the analogy used "Muhammad Ali" instead, it might have registered better to this fuddy duddy boomer forum (signed, a fuddy duddy tail-end boomer).

IOW, it's how they talk in social media due to the character limitations and need for a quick dramatic hit.

This process is COMPLETELY upended by the GenZs coming behind them however, who use Tiktok videos to present analogies rather than naming any specific person or thing.

(Greatest Of All Time) for his actions, as apparently there has been some recent and ongoing debate in the sports fan world about dubbing LeBron James the basketball "GOAT" to replace the current one - Michael Jordan (especially when you have LeBron and his son playing on the same team together).

Trump’s “mind” does not operate in a way that takes others — not even children— into account, even just for one second.

He will say anything that pops into his mind, because he's incapable of selecting the "right thing" to say at the "right time." If any of those children were mine, I'd have put ear plugs into their ears and told them to ignore that strange old man.

Going by the look of shock and resultant dagger stare, I think the older boy’s dad was behind the group closest to the traitor-madman. His expression revealed shock at both the cruelty and the inanity of “the most powerful ‘man’ on the planet.” If Trump were human, he’d have collapsed in shame on the spot.

And it's only going to get worse as he continues to deteriorate. This time he at least stuck to more or less PG‐13 level topics, inappropriate as they were. There's no telling what he'll say next time or the time after that. Anyone with a lick of sense will keep their children far, far away from him. Of course, that means MAGA morons will still bring theirs around any chance they get, poor kids. 🤨

Their MAGA teachers or parents are not protecting them like they should.

children didn't want to meet Bill Clinton because of Lewinsky and that Clinton "was weird."

Yet, crickets with an adjudicated rapist and someone who pays for sex while cheating on his wife and lying about it.

Republicans are the GOAT of double standards.

The older ones might have been creeped out. It would be a big deal for a kid to go to the White House and meet the president (the kids were probably the offspring of people with connections) but that meeting must have been really weird for them, no matter what their parents might have told them.
