Tesla Cybertruck driver arrested after driving into lake to use 'wade mode', police say

Source: BBC

A man has been arrested in Texas accused of intentionally driving his Tesla Cybertruck into a lake to use the vehicle's "wade mode" feature.

The Grapevine Police Department said its officers were called to Grapevine Lake in north Texas on Monday to recover the vehicle, which had been abandoned by the driver and passengers after it took on water and became stuck.

The partially-submerged vehicle was removed from near the shoreline of the south side of the lake, with the Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team assisting police in the operation.

According to the police statement, "the driver stated he intentionally drove into the lake to use the Cybertruck's "Wade Mode" feature", after which "the vehicle became disabled and took on water".

The jokes we told in HS that the Metroplex is where every warning label in existence will eventually be put to the test seems more grounded these days.

it, to get a minor repair done on rolling toaster oven - I mean Cybertruck. I have gone out of my way not to ever ask him why he bought such a turkey. However, one day he did say he thought maybe he should have bought a Rivian.

Look at it this way. He won't have to buy any of that high dollar gas.

waiting for his Tesla to charge will be enough punishment. Add meals, tolls, etc. and his "little trip" will end up costing plenty.
It takes at least 8 hrs. to charge a Cybertruck to 80% with a driving range of around 250 miles. I hope he doesn't have any plans for the next few days.

Fools and their money....... 😉

The charging time you describe is typical for a Level 2 charger like one would have at their home. With DC fast charging, like the Tesla Superchargers, the time for charging from 10% to 80% state of charge would typically be in the 25-30 minute range.

I'm an EV owner myself but I am not a fan of Tesla and I particularly dislike the WankPanzer for multiple reasons. I'd estimate that if he started out each leg of his trip with close to a full charge that charging time would add somewhere around an hour to his trip each way.

Edited to add the correct link.

Once you get into "the heartland" of the.country. You'll be lucky to find any EV chargers at all. My SIL has a Chevy Bolt and they installed a charger right in the garage. 😉

Trumpy will not be giving him an award for bravery. My advice, he needs to out and buy a new truck, lots of Maga merch, then hire some mar-a-lago look models to ride in the truck, and do it again the right way with a film crew from the shores of Amity. Use the score from Jaws and prove Donny wrong.
Oh, wait. That's not what Magas do. Never mind.

He said that on more than one occasion, when he would drive to the lakeside, switch to amphibious mode, and drive onto the water, someone coming up behind him (who didn't have an Amphicar) would drive right in after him, and sink in their road-capable-only car.

The colossal stupidity of the festering, substandard majority of the human animal is dismaying in the extreme...

If the car was sold with the promise that it would 'wade' through water, it's inevitable that someone would want to test out that 'feature'. And now everybody knows it will just sink, so he really did a favor for all the Tesla owners who are tempted to try it.
