Tourists boycott US at record rates after Trump takeover

Source: msn/Daily Beast

7h

Millions of international travelers are increasingly choosing to avoid the United States. The United States had roughly 4 million fewer international visitors in 2025 than the year before, marking a 5.5 percent decline in overseas tourism, according to CNN. Foreign visitor spending also fell by more than $8 billion.

Aside from the collapse in travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, it represents the sharpest annual drop in international tourism in roughly 20 years. Visitor numbers declined from several countries, including Germany, India, France, Australia, Chile, and China, but the largest drop came from Canada, with far fewer Canadians traveling to the United States.

Data from mobile tracking firm Cuebiq suggests Canadian travel to major U.S. cities may have fallen by as much as 42 percent over the past year—far steeper than the official estimate of a 25 percent decline in border crossings. Travelers say they are avoiding trips to the United States because of President Donald Trump’s rhetoric, hardline policies, and the political fallout surrounding the war in Iran.

That is especially true for Canadians. Relations between the U.S. and Canada, historically close allies, have broken down since Trump began his second term. Trump has floated the idea of annexing the country and making it the 51st U.S. state, and slapped tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum, and automobiles. The president’s trade war with Canada has been blamed for a sharp drop in Canadian tourism to Las Vegas, a city where Canadian visitors typically make up a major share of international travel.

The guy who’s bankrupted virtually everything he’s owned has now fucked our economy and world relations completely. Didn’t see that coming, did we? *eyeroll*

I feel the same way. Exactly the same way.

We wind up with a pretty mellowed-out life, all told. Kids are grown up and making their own way. We’re in three different states, and TOTALLY okay with it. And we do stay connected, most of the time.

And I’m happy to report that this arrangement seems to be working out well for everybody!

Our local college recruited students from Asian countries. They paid out of state tuition which allowed the school to add classes and instructors. The Asian students have not come back and there are layoffs and classes dropped.
We have a ferry that crosses to Victoria, Canada. The ridership from Canada is down affecting small tourist businesses.
Trump's trickle down economy.

trump and his minions have hollowed out what once was world class education, especially in science and research. Now, it's all one philosophy... conservative... and everything, even conservatism, from a white nationalist christian perspective. IOW, education dumbed down to the lowest level. It's no wonder trump pushes a philosophy that says college isn't necessary... at the levels they're sinking to, it won't teach anything that has applicability to anything in the world. These RWNJ may not like "globalism" but they live in a global society, whether they like it or not. Constraining their children by teaching that "god does everything" does nothing FOR the kids, here or anywhere else. And it'll be a life left unrealized when they finally face up to the fact they really only had one life to live, and they blew it off for a pie in the sky fantasy of golden paved streets and harps.

All this emphasis on white christian nationalism has done a great job of turning me off of religion of any kind, I'm afraid. If I had to define a religion for myself right now, it'd be "Cats." There's my comfort!

Fewer people on the beach is also a net positive where I live.

They don't care how many people ICE kills. They don't care about people losing jobs until they lose theirs. They don't care what Trump does until their personal finances are affected.

Even then they'll try to blame Biden. Or Obama.

Those who can't make a difference only make excuses anyway. Let them whine, we don't have to listen.

That 30% that is stuck... we don't want them anyway.

orange hellbeast wasn't the only reason but a big big part of it.

If I stayed I was looking at likely working until 70 before I could retire comfortably and that wasn't what I wanted.

I ran the numbers and decided I could retire EARLY, sell my house take my SSA (even though it is less than waiting until 67 or 70!) and my retirement nest egg....move to Spain and live a very comfortable retirement. Hell, just the reduced SSA covers all my living expenses.

My advice to all...if you can work it out EMIGRATE....Lots of great and cheaper countries to live in. The USA is quickly turning into that "shit-hole" country a certain orange asshole talked about.

I won't post here now but later I will about the experience of living in Valencia so far.

Not surprising that we’re hearing less about this subject than we should.

WHATEVER we do toward and for the next several election cycles is to HAMMER HOME what Republican policies have done to our country and what they keep on doing to our country.

NOTHING the GOP has done or tried to do has benefited ANYBODY other than the super rich. That’s all you ever need to know, unless or until THEY wake up and start realizing (AND accepting) their own responsibility for what we all have to deal with, now.

And America is rapidly becoming an unpredictable, chaotic war zone.

Trump and the ineffective efforts to curtail him by the 'system' has been duly noted by the rest of the world.

But if you must roam:
Coast of Spain is nice this time of the year, I hear.
And so are about another 100 places around the world.

Get rid of Fat Donnie Psychopath. Get rid of Hillbilly Vanilli. Then show me you're capable of acting like a modern functional democracy. By that I mean no more "Let's just look forward" shit. I mean proper criminal trials and rich people in prison, not just low-hanging working class J6 fruit. None of that will ever happen, so I suppose I've made my last Vegas trip.

I am working on getting the info needed together to apply for citizenship. My sister is also. They, Canada, have greatly eased up their qualifications to apply. I will be doing so in the next few weeks, if only as an option should the shit really hit the fan. This fall’s election should be telling in many respects. Will it happen, be fair, and get the results that I/we are hoping for.
