Canada's food inspection agency has announced a temporary ban on livestock from the US state of Texas after flesh-eating screwworms were discovered in calves this week.
Cows and horses that were in Texas anytime within 21 days before crossing the border into Canada would not be accepted into the country, an agency news release said.
The announcement comes after the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said the parasite had been found in a second calf in Texas - the leading US beef and cattle producer. Texas Gov Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster on Friday over the "imminent threat" the outbreak posed.
"This is likely to spread over the course of the summer," Abbott told reporters on Friday.

I have been reading that the lack of regulations and vaccines may be the cause of this,
Thank you RFK, jr. for your fucked up insight. And the sad thing about it, viruses and diseases will flourish under this fucked up administration controlled by the fucked up so called Christian party of Republicans.

(12,808 posts)Ivermectin. It's totally useless for COVID but very useful in preventing screwworm strikes.
Doesn't pedo Trump own stock in Ivermectin? Maybe he let it back in to the US to up the price of his stocks.

(21,321 posts)And then the cattle treated cannot be slaughtered for 35 days.
Of course the best prevention was to keep it from moving north in the first place, which we did for many years, until the GOP made cuts to the USDA and DOGE cut more.
Cattle herds were already at record lows because of drought and wildfires over the past few years. Frankly, we don't need to be exporting ANYWHERE right now, but ranchers have every right to make as much money as they can because CAPITALISM!

(8,084 posts)Racist pile of shit. Sorry to any Democratic 🔵 voting cattle ranchers affected but sadly, that's a VERY small %.
Also, HEXANE. And don't worry, American food processors use it in human food too. Expect some residue. Yipee!!!

(19,277 posts)I'll admit I haven't paid enough attention to it.
I rarely eat beef anyway. Rarely just became "never" for the foreseeable future.
I suppose I should also be careful about any products that might be processed in a facility that also processes beef?
Or is this only about the possibility that infected cattle can infect other cattle? (still, seafood aisle, here I come ...)

Its every man for himself mentality ( led by Trump) instead of thinking of doing good for humanity and your fellow ranchers.
Very worrisome that this could already be a huge problem. This is why Canada is refusing Texas cattle. They know the truth.
