U.S. forces on Tuesday evening launched strikes against Iran in response to yesterdays downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter, U.S. Central Command said. The self-defense strikes are a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression, Centcom said in an X post.
The strikes were ordered by President Donald Trump, who said earlier Tuesday that the U.S. would respond to Iran downing the helicopter that was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz.
The two pilots involved in the attack are safe and uninjured, Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack.
Trump did not say what form the U.S. response would take. He has reportedly said privately that he will not throw out the ceasefire with Iran which remains nominally active despite numerous outbreaks of fighting unless U.S. troops are killed.

(30 posts)US helicopters not based in Iran are flying uninvited over sovereign Iranian territory. They are fired upon by Iranian forces who rightfully view them as a hostile threat. What would the US do if Iranian helicopters were flying over New York City uninvited?

(8,560 posts)It has already been shown that they lied repeatedly about 1) the extent to which Iran's missile capacity was degraded; 2) the extent of the damage to US assets in theater; 3) the seriousness and extent of personnel wounded; 4) the extent and seriousness of damage and personnel losses among allied or supporting forces.
I don't believe they've lied about KIAs, though the Israelis are clearly lying about the number of KIAs they are taking in the drone war in southern Lebanon.
Seriously, though, if Hegseth's Pentagon told me it was raining, I'd go outside to check, and then do a complete scan for covert hoses and hidden sprinkler systems. They are lying, straight up.
