JD Vance tells Israel 'you can't kill your way out' of security problems
Source: Al Jazeera
United States Vice President JD Vance has been defending the memorandum of understanding to end the US-Israeli war with Iran, responding to criticism of the deal from members of the opposing Democratic Party and Republicans alike.
But speaking during an interview with The New York Times published on Thursday, the day after US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Pezeshkian inked the MoU, Vance reserved some of his harshest criticism for Israel, whose leaders have continually pushed Washington to continue the war.
Vance pointed to criticism of the deal from Israeli officials, including far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir.
And I guess my response to them would be: What is your exact proposal? Youre a country of nine million people. You cant just kill your way out of solving every single national security problem that you have, he said.

I don't like Vance, but I like the sentence he said.

WTF did he think he would accomplish by unilaterally effectively declaring war on Iran?
Iran's surrogates such as Hezbolah and the houthis will just lob a few missiles toward Israel or toward ships in the strait whenever a "peace deal" seems possible, because it is not in either of their interests to have Iran have a peace agreement between the US and Iran, and it isn't in Israel's interest to have Hezbolah firing missiles at it.
If these so-called "strategists" who decided that starting this war in the first place was a good idea, why would anyone think that these same people would be able to cement an agreement with the US and Iran, and exclude Israel, Hezbolah, Lebanon, etc. out of the discussion.
The Iran nuclear deal with all its flaws was 1000 times better than what these clowns have come up with, and don't let anyone try to say that it was a "bad deal" because Iran kicked out the inspector. Iran kicked out those inspectors in 2017 because the president at that time, TRUMP, decided it was a good idea to throw away the Obama Iran Nuclear Agreement.
If the main country who crafted that agreement walked away from that agreement, why would anyone think that Iran would allow the inspections to continue is beyond me. The US under trump said that deal was null and void.
What should have been done, and would have been if we didn't have a sociopath in the WH TWICE, is using the Iran Nuclear Deal as the framework to correct its deficiencies, instead of bombing the crap out of Iran.
I also blame the f**king voters who thought it would be a good idea to have someone who tried to overturn and election, and incite an attack on our capital, to vote him in for a second term. and that includes THOSE who refused to vote for the Democratic candidate, or didn't vote. They own this disaster, and the ONLY ones who have ANY credibility in my view are those who saw the danger the sociopath in the WH represented, and voted for Harris.
Our country will be paying the price for the STUPIDITY of the American voting public. Those who voted for trump, those who voted third party, and those who didn't vote.

(13,613 posts)If they can just murder all the Palestinians, many of the Lebanese, and perhaps some Syrians, then they can take all that land and no one will bother them again because they'll all be dead. Netanyahu, Smotrich, and Ben-Gvir are all genocidal maniacs. The truly sad thing is that a majority of Israelis seem to support what they're doing.

(55,655 posts)starting with The Six Day War. Incremental: You engage in war. You cross over borders. You win the war. Then you don't retreat back to your borders. You don't exactly call it yours, but instead, you claim it's "disputed" territory. You subsequently encourage civilians to make "settlements" in the "disputed" land that you don't necessarily recognize as not yours. You annex the land. (Sort of like eminent domain) You then incorporate that "disputed" land into Israel eventually. That's the plan for Gaza, the West Bank, and part (or all) of Lebanon.
And who's going to stop this (unspoken) Israeli policy?

(3,252 posts)The Republicans are a lot better at recognizing shifts in American sentiment than Democrats are. Their focus grouos and internal polling are undoubtedly tells them that Americans are poyally pissed off at having the Israeli tail wag the American dog year after year. Vance is mouthing some tough talk to try to take the upper ground on this issue with the American people. It is a smart move and it will probably work for them. They don't have to actually change anything. They just want the appearance of being tough with the Israelis.
Meanwhile, AIPAC continues to call all the shots. AIPAC is not our friend. AIPAC is not good for America. AIPAC is not good for American Jews. and ultimately, AIPAC is not good for Israel, either.

(7,490 posts)But actually what Vance is saying to Netanyahu is the same thing said to Zelenskyy in the infamous Oval Office confrontation. You have no cards, you are a small country, you must do what the big country tells you,
Zelenskyy however reshuffled the deck of his non-existent cards and seems to have made fools of Trump and Vance.
Israel is a different country, different, leader, different situation. So the outcome may be different.
However, I do not believe that the reason Iran has won is due only to Trump being a poor negotiator.
