Kennedy Center says it isnt required to reschedule shows after judge blocks 2-year closure

WASHINGTON (AP) The Kennedy Centers management isnt making a commitment to scheduling new shows or building up its staff even as the performing arts venue considers options short of a full two-year closure that a federal judge blocked last month.
In a court filing Friday, Kennedy Center lawyers said the institution plans to maintain an operational model after the July 5 date when it was initially scheduled to shutter for renovations. Under that status, the Kennedy Centers public spaces will still be accessible but the stages may largely be silent. ... The Courts order did not affirmatively require the Board to reschedule programming that had previously been cancelled or to seek new programming, the lawyers wrote in the filing.
The Kennedy Center has been forced to reassess its plans after a May ruling from U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper upended many notable moves imposed by a board dominated by President Donald Trumps allies. Cooper said Trumps name was illegally added to the building and ordered it taken down. He blocked the closure and gave the institutions leadership along with Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, an ex-officio board member who filed the lawsuit until Friday to provide a status update.
The venue said its management would present the board with several renovation options to consider for a vote. The options would include a complete closure or a partial closure that would allow some continued public access and limited programming in spaces unaffected by the work. A third option would consider a highly limited series of phased closures to address only the Centers most serious infrastructure needs while scheduling and maintaining a full slate of programming.

(33,033 posts)you are right, he wants it destroyed.
The same thing happened when the PGA canceled 2 major golf tournaments at his courses, he was furious. He talked Prince Bone Saw into funding LIV with the purpose to bring down the PGA and then he would control professional golf. LIV golf held numerous tournaments at his courses. The problem with the PGA plan was that his people weren't in charge of the PGA and the PGA outlasted LIV. Krasnov put his people in charge of the Kennedy Arts Center and they will bring it down. He is a petulant child who must get his way.
Every major golf tournament I root against the LIV players who are allowed to play. The US Open going on now only has 1 player remotely close to the lead, 9 shots behind the leader. Krasnov got LIV golfers to sign a lawsuit trying to bring down the PGA. Now that LIV is folding the PGA should not make it easy for the traitor golfers to get back into the PGA, make them earn their way back on through qualifying.

You know he put up the tarp to piss off the courts.
When he's dead lying in state we'll wonder why we submitted to his hate . why we gave him so much control.

(54,519 posts)As for rescheduling shows, good luck with that. As long as the Trump goons are in charge of the place, performers will boycott.

(42,906 posts)The ones who wouldn't have already been replaced. So they're just doing his bidding AFAICS.
As it is, the previously scheduled performances aren't going to come back as long as Chump is the nominal "leader." So turn it into a bingo hall for 2 years or until Chump is finally gone.

Imagine being on the board of one of the greatest cultural venues in the country with the mission of destroying it. This isn't normal. None of this is normal.
