AUSTIN (KXAN) — The union representing CapMetro workers announced Tuesday that 99.5% of its members voted to authorize a strike, if necessary, against the Austin transit provider.

It comes as the union’s contract negotiations with CapMetro subcontractor Keolis have “stalled,” according to Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1091.

“Time’s up, Keolis! This vote sends a powerful message that our members are unified and strong,” said Local 1091 President Brent Payne. “We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, and we’re taking a stand now against the company’s disrespect.”

Keolis told KXAN that it was engaging in the negotiations in “good faith” and were “committed to maintaining a collaborative and respectful relationship.”
