President Trump will host officials from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq in the Oval Office on Monday, to mark his administrations launch of new investment accounts for children.
The Treasury Department launched the Trump Accounts on July 4, allowing the accounts to receive contributions. An app for parents to fund their childs account and explore financial education modules is also fully updated as of Saturday, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said last week officials from the two stock exchanges will ring their opening bells from the White House. Trading is open on the NYSE and Nasdaq from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
Were having a big opening bell ceremony next week, where the Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange are going to ring the bell from the Oval [Office] for the first time together, Hassett told host Joe Kernen on CNBCs Squawk Box. And theyre doing that to celebrate the accounts, to make sure everybody knows its time to get an account for your kid, he added. Trumps public schedule for Monday includes a 9:30 a.m. Trump Accounts launch.

And good morning. 80. I'll open some windows.
Edited. Not this one. He's still going. Look for general aviation from the New York City area to KDCA.

There are a couple live feeds going but I can't handle that on a Monday. It was a PITA to get an embeddable pic.
And good rainy morning. Over 2.5" since last night.

This is a train that originates in New York City.
The delay happened in Washington. They couldn't find a locomotive for it.

(12,930 posts)I read that they are planning to put "America 250" and/or "Trump Accounts" on newly issued Social Security cards (I guess for kids or babies). I can't remember which - or maybe both.
IF that's true, then it's the clearest sign yet that they plan to privatize Social Security - maybe by slowly killing the existing system and turning it into these stock market things - which essentially is a gambling casino. Because everyone wants their retirement money in a gambling casino. Right?

(43,230 posts)I haven't had my TV on all weekend so I missed the story you're referring to. It's possible but unlikely that MS-Now accepted advertising from the "Trump Accounts" organization. (Assuming that it's even a business at this point.)
It's much more likely that MS-Now ran a news story about the development, and some viewers mistook it for a paid advertisement.

(12,930 posts)Not a news story. I was watching. The ad appeared several times over the weekend - had kids in it saying "sign me up!"

Its a great idea that will live on after Trump is gone. Hate his name being attacked to it, but being able to start something for your children at birth is just a sound idea.

(24,624 posts)I dont care if his name is on it, these are IRAs backed by our federal government. Not taking advantage of them is a loss.
I think he knows most liberals wont invest in them and it will be their childrens loss.

And from US Treasury:
At launch, all contributions to Trump Accounts will be invested in the State Street SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF (SPYM) a low-cost exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks the performance of the S&P 500 Index. The fund was selected to provide broad exposure to the U.S. stock market while maintaining expenses well below the statutory fee limitation. Treasury has also selected the following additional low-cost index ETFs for the Trump Accounts investment lineup:
iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV)
Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI)
State Street SPDR Portfolio S&P 1500 Composite Stock Market ETF (SPTM)
iShares Core S&P total U.S. Stock Market ETF (ITOT)
These funds have been selected to provide diversified exposure across major segments of the financial markets while keeping investment costs low.
