Graham Platner postpones multiple events this week
Source: Bangor Daily News
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner has postponed a string of events Sunday and Monday as rumors circulate among Maine Democrats and over social media about another potentially damaging story to come about the oyster farmers past.
Platner postponed a planned town hall in Augusta on Sunday after reportedly missing a Fourth of July parade in Machias. The Gorham Democrats on Monday morning said a town hall set for Monday was postponed because Platner was not feeling well. And a Sanford town hall previously listed on Mobilize was later taken down.
The Platner campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the events. The postponements came as multiple Democrats told the Bangor Daily News they expected a national outlet to drop a story about Platner Monday or Tuesday. Rumors about potentially damaging stories on the progressive candidate increasingly swirled online Sunday night and Monday, just as they did before the New York Times published a story last month featuring a few ex-girlfriends of Platners alleging toxic behavior. He denied ever being physically violent in a relationship.
The prediction market Kalshi showed the odds of Platner dropping out rising to more than 9% from 2% Monday morning.

(2,314 posts)I always assumed a candidate who has never held elected office would be thoroughly vetted, especially for a high-profile US Senate seat. Opposition research is a massive industry, and it is incredibly frustrating that this keeps happening.
With the July 13 deadline to replace a nominee on the ballot fast approaching, the campaign and the party need to figure out the best path forward to defeat Collins immediately. Hoping they have a real plan because this trickle of headlines is unsustainable.

(4,688 posts)should be on electing Ds -- including Platner -- so that there's a chance to save our country and our freedoms. He can always be expelled from Congress at a later time. Also, IMO, at this moment in time it's who he is, a D, which is more important than what he is.

(15,799 posts)When is the last date that a candidate's name can be removed from the ballot?
Isn't it peculiar that the person to report his sexual abuse waits until now to release it? Isn't it also interesting that one of the women who reported him for sexual abuse was on Collins's campaign staff a couple of terms ago?
Then we have Talarico being called gay or trans.
We sure know how to lose elections.
