Beshear Calls on McConnell to 'End the Crazy Speculation' as Senator's Spokesperson Gives Update

Source: MEDIAite

Jul 11th, 2026, 4:45 pm

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) called on Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) office to “end the crazy speculation” on the senator’s health Saturday — as McConnell’s office gave its first update in weeks.

Beshear posted to X on Saturday, “I publicly and privately urged the last administration to address the public’s concerns with the former president’s health. I’m calling on Sen. McConnell to do the same and provide voters an update on his own health. Let’s end the crazy speculation. Just tell us what’s going on.”

It’s the second time in a week Beshear has sought clarity from McConnell’s office about the senator: on Wednesday, the governor sent a letter to McConnell’s office saying Kentuckians had become increasingly concerned about the senator’s health and asking for an update on his current condition.

McConnell’s office gave it’s first update in weeks on the senator’s health, telling local outlet WDRB in Louisville Saturday that the politician “continues his recovery in the hospital.” “As you can imagine, we have been receiving lots of messages from folks, and as the senator continues to recover, we will be sure to keep you updated,” the spokesperson told the outlet.

Does he fondly remember the many years they spent together trying to destroy democracy in America in the U.S. Senate? Does Sen. McConnell have condolences for the family at “this difficult time”? Did Graham speak with him for around 20 minutes yesterday?

that both of these hideous people may have died after a bite from J.D. Vance infected them with rabies.

With Graham gone, they have to pretend McConnell is alive to keep what's left of their "majority."

What are the Senate rules,if any, regarding such unverified health status?
Can constituents sue?

At least not any more than Dianne Feinstein being absent from the Senate for 2+ months or Ted Kennedy being absent for five months and then again for over two months or any number of other examples, from both parties. Or the many examples of an elected member of the House or Senate missing weeks or months of votes while out campaigning for another office or reelection.

Yes, I know neither Feinstein nor Kennedy was rumored to have died. But the issue I'm addressing is whether it is a dereliction of duty for an elected official not to show up for work. And from a legal, constitutional standpoint, the answer is that it is not.

If the governor tried to do that it would likely end in an embarrassing standoff where he was blocked in the hospital hallway.

There are strict federal laws about this and hospitals that violate them can lose Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, meaning they close.

The hospital won't say a word and they won't allow anybody in - and that's assuming McConnell is still in the hospital.

for Democrats in the past. The GOP cowers over the threat of making Dems mad.

This is why we lost 1,000 seats and several state houses just during Obama’s reign. Keep bringing these memos to a gun fight—it might finally work someday.

He's a Democratic governor in a deep red state. He's won election as governor twice and is a possible 2028 presidential nominee. So he's not dumb and he's probably strategic.

This is not his problem to fix. The longer the speculation swirls the worse it looks for the GOP.
