Where we lost our constitutional democratic republic.
https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2025/07/It's not all Trump's doing. The dismantling of the Constitution and the steps leading to this current flurry of activity in threatening what remains have been happening for quite some time, undermined by a whole series of events that have been set in motion, most of which have happened since the end of the Vietnam War in 1973, or which had already begun but started gaining traction around that time.
There's no doubt that Trump's approach to the Presidency is an existential threat to constitutional democracy. In his insanity, this ego driven, mentally deranged man acts as if there is no accountability for his actions and that the Presidency is a power for him to use to benefit himself. And so far, he's been right, since none of the safeguards and balance of power has worked to stop him, not because it can't, but because those who have the power to carry it out won't do it. He's insulated himself by appointing sycophants to his cabinet who are ignorant of the Constitution, incompetent at their job so they don't know how to do it, and loyal to him, and just enough corrupt judges to the court bench to get cases in their hands so nothing happens.
But ignorance of the Constitution, and a lack of interest in the politics that are part of the operation of any government is an American trait. There is an apathy among the population of this country that shows up in large numbers of people who don't bother to register and vote. And there's another segment that does show up in order to cast a vote in support of someone else's agenda, rather than do their own thinking. Being patriotic means more than wearing red, white and blue clothes on the Fourth of July, or wearing an American flag lapel pin. It requires taking the time to understand how government works in order to preserve democracy by participating in it as an educated voter, not an ignorant dumb ass.

I think so because propaganda has taken over people's minds. There's so much-mind poisoning garbage on the Internet. I was talking to a relative the other day who cursed Trump vehemently. In the same breath he said something about immigrants being a problem and some nonsense about them working at Home Depot. Mind you he is never going to be working at Home Depot.
The whole mentality of them taking something away from us is crazy it makes no sense but because of propaganda it persists. And the ones influenced by it have no ability to discern the manipulative intent of the things they listen to on social media.
There's no getting through to large swaths of people.
We're facing challenges that seem to be insurmountable to me just from my personal experience. I watched some other people recently listening to YouTube propaganda. Once again they were not able to determine that what they were listening to was fake. A large number of people do not know how to even question the sources of the information that they believe.
I talked to another friend who is as anti Trump as they come. And she was still uttering anti immigration ignorance as it relates to the need to unite because it's not just immigrants who are in danger. I've listened to and watched the misinformation of so many among my family and friends and -- most of them are Democrats but they're still misguided.
Ive come to the dismaying conclusion that it will take the deaths of a large number of people close to them or their own deaths before the majority wake up. Because woke truly is dead.

(6,700 posts)of congress in 2020, and there were plenty of calls to amend the judiciary act, which would have required the somewhat risky, but very bold move of getting rid of the senate filibuster, which needs to be gone anyway. And then, after adding five open seats, packing that damn court and neutralzing those six criminal conspirators who were appointed by Republicans.
I have not yet had a single Democratic party politician give a reasonable explanation of why that was not done, one that would show some resolution and courage, things which were in very short supply in the Department of Justice at that same time. In addition to having sympathetic justices on the court who would have ripped Trump's cases away from the corrupt fools who had them, and got him fairly tried for insurrection and classified document theft, and ended his interminable delays by ruling against his motions and moving his trials forward, they could also have overturned citizens united and the presidential immunity ruling, saved Roe and kept Trump and any one in his entourage out of Washington for good.
But our party leadership felt that might look too political.
That explains why David Hogg is doing what he is doing.

(14,356 posts)9 unelected people should not have this much power.
They lie repeatedly when they are being considered for the position.
1. Corporations are not people. Saying it or ruling on it does not make it true.
2. Money is not speech. Saying it or ruling on it does not make it true.
3. Stopping the count for a presidential election was a grave error that can never be corrected. (2000)
4. Allowing unqualified people to make decisions on health care makes absolutely zero sense. Overturning Roe vs Wade
was an attack on women's rights and an attack of the availability of necessary life saving health care. Women have died
because of this grave error.
5. Stacking the court with religious zealots is harmful for our democracy. "Separation of Church and State" is being ignored
all over the country.

(52,355 posts)dismantling democracy. We were being hyperbolic. There were no stormtroopers. Nobody was being herded into concentration camps and put into ovens. Reagan was not Hitler.
With ever subsequent Republican President, we inched closer. Sure, we had pauses with Clinton, Obama, and Biden. But the march towards fascism continued and many elements have been secured as of this date.
How do you make citizens treasure and protect their freedoms when they're more than willing to relinquish them? You can't.
