Michael Cohen - Attention MAGA Shoppers!
Tariffs sold as strength are quietly draining American wallets. What was promised as punishment for others is now an invisible tax reshaping everyday life for working families.
Let me say it plainly, because nobody else does: tariffs are taxes. Not on China. Not on Mexico. Not on the mystical, faraway land of foreign adversaries. They're taxes on youthe American consumer. So if youve been feeling like your paycheck doesnt stretch the way it used to, if you walked into Walmart lately and walked out in shock, let me help you connect the dots. Because its not just inflation. Its not just the market. Its Donald Trumps tariff policy coming home to roostand right in your grocery cart.
Now, Trump has long insisted that tariffs punish other countries. He once said, We tax China. No, Sir. You tax Americans. You slap a 25% tariff on imported goods, and what do you think happens? The companies dont eat that cost out of patriotism. They pass it on to the store. The store passes it on to you. So congratulations, MAGA faithful: youre now the proud owners of the Trump taxand you didnt even get a commemorative coin.
Lets talk numbers, because this isnt theoretical. A research group has been quietly tracking 50 commonly purchased items at Walmart for the last seven weeks. What they found is no fluke; its a slow bleed. Graco strollers? In May, $199. In July, $299. Thats a 50% jump. Got a baby on the way? Better have a trust fund too.

(1,188 posts)greediest SOBs add the tax to inventory already in their possession and some take advantage of the situation to hike up prices hoping the consumer doesn't notice they've increased their profit margin under the guise of import taxes (tariffs).
All made possible by your Republican Party.

(6,387 posts)As has been stated many times, red don's tariffs pass taxation from the wealthy to lower income people, who spend a greater percentage of their income. Highly regressive.
This is what having a nation of illiterates re taxation, math, and governance leads to. If the public had understood the mechanics of the situation, red don wouldn't have been able to con enough of them re tariffs.
What a clusterf*ck this nation has devolved into.
