You Can't Gaslight the American People Into Thinking the Economy Is Strong
Every time I do an interview or podcast, someone inevitably asks: What mistakes did Democrats make in 2024 that cost us the election?
And its always a little ironicbecause while I could talk about that all day (and often do), what Im watching now is the Republican Party making the exact same mistake.
Its the mistake of thinking you can spin people out of their own lived experience. That you can gaslight the country into believing the economy is strong
when its clearly, tangibly not.
I called this out on Fox News a couple weeks ago. The host and guest laughedthought it was a gotcha that I pointed out how expensive everything still is under Trump. But a few days later? Fox released a poll showing Trump with a -30% rating on inflation.

(55,599 posts)they know they only need to have voter approval on election day. they certainly didn't pass the one bollocks botulism bill with the american people in mind.
come election season, they will have some fresh, grade a bullsh*t that the media will serve up covered in roses and the masses will eat it up and insist the rest of us are unpatriotic for pointing out that it stinks to high heaven. i don't know exactly what it is, but it probably involves blaming drag queens or something like that.

(642 posts)you cannot tell the American people that the economy is great when healthcare costs are up, so many cannot afford to buy a home and increasingly cannot afford rent , college or a car. Groceries are up. There is zero job security. Wages have not kept up with inflation. People do not have money to retire with. Telling people their financial situation is good when for about half of the country it is not, is a great way to lose elections.
