Jeff Tiedrich - Gavin Newsom, fuck yeah

‘fight back, you fucking fucks.’

for years, as Republicans have systematically taken a blowtorch to every guardrail that protects our fragile democracy, we’ve been screaming for Democrats to just fight back already.

get out of here with your speechifying. stick your strongly-worded letters where the sun don’t shine. that weak-ass shit don’t fly.

yesterday, California Governor Gavin Newsom fought back.

to counter Greg Abbott’s fascistic attempt to further gerrymander Texas and shitcan five Democratic districts, Newsom announced he was moving forward with the Election Rigging Response Act, his plan to redistrict California and neutralize Texas’ fuckery.

I feel confident more blue state politicians will now look into creative direct actions they can also take to support this battle for a new and more solid freedom for all of us.

Nice to see a leader like Newsom, doing something beyond mumbling excuses, writing "stern" letters, and turning the other cheek.

I want to see a lot more of this sort of angry, thoughtful response from Democratic leadership. A whole lot more. Immediately.

…. have doomed the blue whale to extinction. The oceans are getting too warm for the krill they feed on
and Trump and Musk are shutting down work, research, and new technologies to deal with global warming.

And don’t give me the, “what about both sides?” Bull shit.

I delete and block every funding text get from any democrat post election because nobody from the
Democratic Party has said shit about how corrupt the election was. There was a reason why Mitch
McConnell blocked any and all funding on election integrity and security. Republicans cheat because
they have to.

They have been bringing white papers that warn about the dangers of bringing even a pea shooter or slingshot to a gunfight.

And as much as I appreciate Newsom's sharper rhetoric, rhetoric is not action. Unfortunately, Trump is running wild with nobody checking anything he does, white people like Newsom face the daunting prospect of getting other Dems to move. And they are mostly as scared as 100% of the GOP (Guardians of Pedophiles).

It is worse than just hanging out in bunkers. It is more like the Neville Chamberlain treatment. When people like Bernie and AOC bring out huge crowds of Americans begging for real action, the party establishment punishes them. Likewise when somebody like David Hogg tries to motivate the necessary change from within.

My suggestion is that the more prominent Dems (like Newsom, Schumer, Jeffries, Hochul) swallow their egos and make a real alliance with people like AOC, Elizabeth, Bernie, Hogg, Mamdani and anybody else who is not afraid of their own shadow. Forget about posturing for 2028. There won't be a 2028 election at this rate.

To the extent that laws mean anything these days, I do think there are some strong moves Newsom could be taking through executive action. I am not a lawyer, and certainly not expert on California law, but it seems that something should be possible along these lines. Newsom could make a proclamation, such as:

In recent weeks, California has seen the invasion of a rogue force, that is acting illegally in many cases. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is authorized to investigate cases of suspected illegal immigration. California is committed to cooperating with ICE in that mission, so long as ICE operates 100% within all state and Federal laws, and remains within their purview of immigration violations. California does not recognize ICE personnel for any other purpose within our state. They are not a general police force, and will not be permitted to masquerade as such. Effective immediately, any acts of intimidation, assault, terrorism, impersonation of police officers or any other illegal behavior on the part of ICE agents will be dealt with swiftly and any individuals violating California's laws will be prosecuted vigorously. We will simply not permit a Gestapo-style gang to run wild -- not within California.

Further, I will be meeting with our legislative leaders early next week to begin writing new legislation that codifies the rights of every California resident with regard to agencies such as ICE. This legislation must include, at minimum, the requirement that every agent may conduct their responsibilities dressed in clearly recognized agency uniforms that prominently identify the agency and the agent. No agents will be permitted to wear any devices or clothing that hides their identity, and all actions must be accompanied with court-issued warrants that specifically identify the suspects and their alleged violations. We will not permit warrant-less sweeps and we will not permit abduction or arrest of California residents without due process.

I've held off for so long on endorsing Gov Newsom. Why? He's slick, he's good-looking, he used to be married to the godawful former girlfriend of Trump Junior. Oh, and he's from California.

Okay. I can deal with all that - and more. Truth be told, I spent many happy years in California, and wish I still lived there. And one shouldn't be penalized for being good-looking and slick.

Also, I'm willing to concede that love can do ridiculous things to people, including causing them to marry the son-of-Trump-screeching-Mimi-former girlfriend-with an abundantly botoxed face.

So Gov Newsom, I give you my endorsement, my blessing, and perhaps a few bucks for your campaign. Stand strong, and we former Californians will stand with you. Go get 'em!
