Call Me Crazy, but I for One Still Want to Know if the President Committed Depraved Sex Crimes
Its in the publics interest to find out one way or another, IMO
(snip)
What did the president, Trump, mean when he told reporters this summer that the late Jeffrey Epstein stole a 16-year-old spa attendant named Virginia Giuffre from his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida in order to employ her as a masseuse? (Giuffre would later become one of Epsteins most prominent public accusers, stating that he went on to molest her and pressure her into having sex with his acquaintances for years.) If Trump ended his friendship with Epstein over this and other incidents in which the financier pursued young Mar-a-Lago employees, as the president currently claims, why was Epstein still listed as a member of the club until well after his 2006 indictment for soliciting prostitution? (In 2019 Epstein was charged in a much more sweeping federal indictment.) Why did a so-called raw video released by the Department of Justice, which purported to prove that Epstein died in his prison cell as the result of suicide, turn out to actually have been edited? What do the records of Epsteins financial transactions reveal?
The presidents defensiveness about these questions makes you wonder if there is something incriminating about him in the so-called federal files of documents related to the case, especially given his alleged history of walking in on underage girls while they were changing clothes in a dressing room, the jury finding that he sexually assaulted a woman in a New York City department store in 1996, the allegations by at least a dozen other women that he groped or otherwise forced himself on them sexually, and his own crude statement during a 2005 Access Hollywood taping about how much he enjoyed touching women without their consent. (Trump has denied committing sexual assault.)
As the American Prospect lays out in the story linked above, the current choice before members of the House of Representatives is whether to sign on to 1) a so-called discharge petition authored by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna that would compel the chamber to vote on the public release of the DOJs Epstein files, including the unredacted names of any government officials mentioned within them, or 2) a resolution of support for the Republican-led House Oversight Committees much more limited pursuit of Epstein materials. On Tuesday, that committee made a show of releasing a group of documents that, according to the Washington Post, appears to mostly contain information that was already in the public domain.
(snip)
Is it certain that the presidents political standing would suffer were it to turn out that he was, in fact, implicated in this investigation? No. Is that depressing? Sure. Is it proof that nothing matters? Maybe, but there is only one way to find out.

(127,269 posts)There's evidence that Epstein had a lot of dodgy financial stuff going on; a large amount of unexplained money was discovered. Trump could have been involved in those transactions. Money laundering? Human trafficking? Trump hasn't been embarrassed by his past sexual exploits (he's actually proud of them), so unless there's incontrovertible evidence that he had assaulted minors, sexual behavior might not be what he's hiding. But if he was an active part of a human trafficking ring and/or was using Epstein's connections to launder money (Russian, maybe?), that could be a bigger problem for him.

(20,623 posts)The interesting part is that while he chummed with Epstein, and shared his predilections, Epstein was probably catering to billionaires while his sidekick was in and out of bankruptcy. The relationship seems simple. Make sure he got off with a traffic ticket for his crimes, until things got serious, and bye, bye, Jeffrey.
Now, the situation with Putin may be entirely separate, or related, but of such magnitude that Trump has turned traitor on his own country. My guess as to the "summit" held in Alaska, S.S.R, is that Putin raised the price beyond money. He demanded the dismantling of the United States for "evidence" he holds.
We are talking a multiply-bankrupt businessman and fired actor versus a KGB veteran. (and one who is making all is opposition disappear these days).
Actions tell all, even when we don't have underlying facts.
Imagine pardoning a portion of the USSC, congress, most of the Forbes list ... Maybe that's what he is facing, and as far as his cult goes, only 1 or 2 of hundreds of "Johns" belonging to the "Radical Left Party" should be enough to get out the tar and feathers, because the only REAL crime in their lexicon is "catering to libs".
In short, while it's likely, his real crimes may be in the Putin rap sheet, whereas he has the cornerstone of the entire Republican party to protect, on the premise that "libs" are vastly outnumbered by "conservatives" among the rich.
I can think of three!!!
And conservatives live to protect the rich, at the expense of the not so rich.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

(3,005 posts)If he had the opportunity to rape a child without getting caught, then of course he did it. Does anyone truly think there's a bridge too far for this guy? That he would say to himself "That's just so morally depraved it's beyond consideration"? How many women have accused him? Why did he purchase a teen beauty pageant? Why did he brag about it on tape? How much does he owe E. Jean Carroll?
There's something missing in this golem's brain.

(6,767 posts)Of course he did. What other reason would he have for associating with Epstein, more than any one else?
