Tuesday's special election in Arizona set to deliver a decisive US House vote for Epstein files release

(CNN) A special election in Arizona on Tuesday is expected to deliver the decisive signature to the push for a vote to release the Jeffrey Epstein case files.

The race in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District will determine who will fill the seat vacated by the late Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva, who died from cancer in March. Grijalva’s daughter, Adelita Grijalva, is looking to follow in her father’s footsteps. She is heavily favored against Republican Daniel Butierez, who ran for the seat against the elder Grijalva in 2024, losing the race by 26 points.

A discharge petition circulated by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California, needs 218 House members to sign on to force leadership to hold a vote to release the Epstein files. The pair notched their 217th signature earlier this month when Democratic Rep. James Walkinshaw, fresh off winning a special election in Virginia’s 11th District, was sworn in and signed the petition.

every damn day and pushed by every Congressional Democrat. I doubt that Bondi/Patel will release the files but we can let all of America know who the deep state really is, who is protecting big name pedophiles.

Fucking Ghislaine Maxwell is having a blast at her new country club. When is the head of the federal bureau of prisons going to release the reasons for Maxwell's waiver? Why no follow up from Whitehouse and Garcia about the stern letters they sent requesting that information?

Sorry folks, but we need to get some unwashed Magats on board and the only way to do that is by screaming.

The pessimistic side of me says orange assface won't even let this be released, he is too implicated and could be convicted of sex trafficing with minors if the whole truth were released. Think he would defy SCOTUS and of course no one would do anything at all. Sorry, in a downer mood this am.

the floor for a vote. I believe it will need 217 votes to pass the House. That means 2 out of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert & Nancy Mace will have to vote for it. You would hope they will all vote for it given they signed the petition, but there's no way we can completely trust any of those 3.

Assuming it does pass, it goes to the Senate. I'm not sure how/when it can be forced to be put up for a vote there. If the vote happens, they need 13 Republicans to vote for cloture (assuming cloture is invoked). Then it would need 4 Republicans to vote for the bill. It would seem highly unlikely to have enough Republicans vote as needed to pass the Senate.

But let's assume it does pass the Senate. Trump then needs to sign it which there is zero chance of happening, so this bill will never get implemented, regardless. However, it's still important to put pressure on the Republicans. The public outcry to release the files is already remaining loud (even while the administration does everything humanly possible to divert attention). Passage of this bill in the House will make the public outcry even louder.
