"The truth about Trump is sinking in for his MAGA followers"

The truth about Trump is sinking in for his MAGA followers

https://www.salon.com/2025/11/23/the-truth-about-trump-is-sinking-in-for-his-maga-followers/

But in a way, Trump did have the common touch. He liked fast food and sports and, most importantly, he shared all their gripes and complaints and articulated them in the same terms some used themselves. For all his crowing about his money and showing off, he really didn’t put on airs. He was just like them.

He wasn’t, of course, and he reportedly had nothing but contempt for his followers. But for all of Trump’s flashy displays of wealth, he was never really a member of the Billionaire Boys club either. He was a climber, always on the outside looking in.

But since he won the presidency the second time, it’s different. He’s one of the Big Money Boys now, and that club loves him as much as any MAGA redhat.

So far, the most indelible image of Trump’s second term is the line up of wealthy tech oligarchs standing right behind him at his inauguration: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, Amazon CEO and Washington Post publisher Jeff Bezos and his then-fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and, of course, Elon Musk, the richest man in the world. All of them were there to demonstrate their fealty to the man who would be king. And why not? After fomenting an attempted coup, inspiring an insurrection and being found liable for sexual abuse and defamation, and massive fraud, Trump’s ballsy reelection was the most impressive act of legerdemain they had ever seen, proving once again that rich men can do whatever they want.

1. Oh, he tries to put on airs, but he's so uncouth and ignorant he never impresses the people he really wants to impress.

It's like someone taking their dog for a walk and when the dog takes a dump in someone else's yard, they whip out a can of gold spray paint, paint the turd and leave it where it is. Most of the neighbors are simultaneously baffled and disgusted, but a surprising amount see it and go, "Cool! Golden turds!"

2. "High Society"...especially in New York...has its own form of "secret handshake."

One of the most gratifying aspects of Trump's first term coming to an end was that Princess Ivanka was CONVINCED that she and Jared were going to be welcomed with OPEN ARMS as the TOAST of NYC's elite high society. The sky was the limit! Who knows...maybe they'd even rename her beloved Met Gala as "The Princess Ivanka Gala!" It could happen!

Until it didn't. New York didn't want the two of them, and that was made as clear as possible, so they had to console themselves with a $24 million mansion in Florida.

Doesn't matter if Trump came from Queens or not. His "native" status was meaningless among the upper crust. He's been a boorish pig, a clown, a con man, for his entire life, and that's the way New York has always seen him.

3. Not so fast

I have to disagree with the title. The cult is not changing its mind. They only raise their denial
dial to match his increasingly heinous behavior. His core base really believes that he has been chosen by God, and excuse anything and everything he does by saying that “God chooses imperfect men to enact his perfect plan”. No worries then! “If God supports him then we do too”

No matter who conducts the poll or what the poll asks about, @ 30% plus of American respondents support him. Largely fundagelical “Christians”. Their support is predictably unwavering because their support is not based on any reality-based measure. Their yearning for a white male Christian theocracy to punish “evildoers” and grease the skids for the second coming of Christ supersedes all.

4. Sure, makes sense...I put it out there "as is" for the purpose of discussion and don't necessarily agree 100%...

I never post things here that I know are the polar opposite of what this community believes. But THIS "issue" is "a matter of degrees." PERSONALLY, I do think the NUMBER of Trump voters compared to the TOTAL who are "migrating" IS far too small to celebrate.

So the way to look at this, for me (and, as I said, for purposes of discussion):

1). Is the disenchanted Trump voter making ANY sense, and
2). HOW "widespread" do you think this mindset will become ACROSS the Trump voters.

Personally, I am going to predict that any wins we make in 2026 will be almost entirely via Democrats and Independents.

So if we can get a handle on WHY the Trump voters are unhappy, and we can craft that into a legitimate, pro-active response that will resonate with voters, no...we WON'T pick up significant numbers of Trump voters in 2026. Too soon.

But we WILL pick up INDEPENDENTS.

So no, it's not a party celebrating the end of Trump. It's a party about the fact that even the smallest cracks of light are beginning to appear at the edge of the forest.

5. I'm convinced the unhappy trump voters will never be satisfied.

Why? Because to satisfy them, all democrats and anyone else who doesn't look like them, talk like them, think like them, and worship like them... or are "independents" will have to die. THAT would make them happy... delirious, in fact, until time came for their Red States to be funded. Even then, they'd find a way to blame the failure on the dead democrats. These people are beyond help. They've been so programmed, they might as well be AI, without the "Intelligence" aspect. They're zombies that eschew brains for fear of getting a whiff of anything forbidden, as taught by their preachers. They are the worst of human evolution. IMO, they represent the de-evolution of mankind.

6. Every time Republicans had a loss, Trump screamed "I WASN'T ON THE BALLOT."

And, we know the way that MAGAts "learn" is by the constant repetition of short words and phrases. They have now come to see elections without Trump as unimportant, so...unless HE motivates them, they will STILL vote in 2026, but maybe not in the same numbers as if he were on the ballot.

7. True, there is no single "MAGA" voting bloc.

Uninformed people who voted for him because he promised economic progress (a lie) and because they watch FOX and think all Dems are communists are more likely to respond based on his lousy record. But the alternate reality cult core is not going to change.
