At least $290 billion stolen. The Democrats should promise your money back.

Today, the Supreme Court struck down Donald Trump’s tariff scheme, because the power of taxation goes to the Congress, not the president. “The Framers did not vest any part of the taxing power in the Executive Branch,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority.

The news is being framed as a loss. “The 6-3 ruling is a major blow to the president’s signature economic policy,” NPR said. It “represents a stinging political setback,” the Post said. “The first major piece of President Trump’s broad agenda” is now upended, the AP said.

Hours before the court’s ruling came news of the US economy slowing down to a degree much greater than economists expected, because consumers pulled back so sharply. They did so, of course, because Trump’s tariffs scheme amounted to the biggest tax increase of the last three decades, according to the Tax Foundation. (JP Morgan Chase, in an assessment published last April, said it’s the biggest since 1968.)

The Times said the government collected nearly $290 billion in custom duties last year, triple what was collected the year before. Last week, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York issued a report saying more than 90 percent of that came out of the pockets of American consumers. (This quarter was shaping up to be worse than the last, as consumer confidence “collapsed” last month to its lowest level since 2014.)..........................

That a political party would let somebody get by with such morally repugnant actions and not be taken out of office.

billion illegally.

Something is wrong here about this and something should be have been done way before now, before the negative impact of almost $300 billion dollars flowing the wrong way in our Economy, not in dip****'s territory.

At least the Supreme Court is (finally) stepping up, and it seems that most of the federal judges all across the country are doing their jobs. But Congress has been worthless since the day Chump came in.

all the ways they're going to be cheating come 26 and '28, or out-cheat them. Neither of which we should even be discussing as possible in the US.

Star Trek: Picard had several good lines in it, IMO. One of the ones that hits me hardest was "The dreams are nice; it's waking I'm regretting" (or words to that effect... I can't quite remember it exactly.) But that's the way I'm feeling... I'm so diminished, despondent, and discouraged that any of the branches of government are not doing what they can FOR the American people... they're basically only acting when the rubber hits the road as far as they're concerned -- not us. I don't know what's going to happen to the maga people; they actually seem to dumb to understand what's happening and why. I was raised in the 50-70's... graduated in 1974. I thought my education was really good... not great, as there were subjects even then I didn't think we touched on far enough or in-depth enough. But it seems I came away with a good deal of understanding and practice at critical thinking; something that evidently was lacking thereafter. I dunno... maybe I'm just griping because I'm so despondent at what the future holds. My grandson just turned 31 and got married two days prior to that. I absolutely fear for what his world is going to be like when he gets to be my age, if its even still here.

All I know is I look around at the US today, and I see pictures and stories of what the USSR was like back in the 60's. And all I can do, besides drag my aching body to marches, is SMDH. It's just not enough. Will there ever be justice? Not for the girls/women of the Epstein files; not for the girls and women that trump raped... probably had murdered... and now is desperately trying to strip not only our bodily autonomy from us, but also the rights we fought so hard to win... including the right to vote. Yeah... unconscious dreaming is better than waking reality, these days... except for those nights I wake up in a cold sweat thanks to night terrors of trump.
