Trump unhappy with Iran's latest proposal to end the war
DUBAI/WASHINGTON, April 28 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump is unhappy with the latest Iranian proposal on resolving the two-month war, a U.S. official said, dampening hopes for resolution of a conflict that has disrupted energy supplies, fuelled inflation, and killed thousands.
Iran's latest proposal would set aside discussion of Iran's nuclear programme until the war, on hold following a ceasefire announced earlier this month, is ended and disputes over shipping from the Gulf are resolved.
Trump is unhappy with Iran's proposal as he wants nuclear issues dealt with from the outset, said a U.S. official briefed on the president's Monday meeting with his advisers, speaking on condition of anonymity.
White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales said the U.S. has "been clear about our red lines" as it seeks to end the war it began in February alongside Israel.

(1,792 posts)give up their nuclear ambitions. Especially after this war. That would be total defeat. Iran still wants to keep the trap in place cost it what it will.

America would then need to implement it's 'hands off a nuclear armed country' policy.
Problem solved!

That is where we are right now.

(13,536 posts)Why do MAGATS and Republicans, and perhaps some Democrats, think we have the right to dictate what another country can do? Perhaps I don't remember, but no one complained when Israel obtained nuclear weapons, and no one bombed them for doing so. Some nations may have complained when Pakistan obtained nuclear weapons, but no one waged war against them.
Iran is no more evil than North Korea or Russia but no one attacks them BECAUSE they have nuclear weapons. Given Iran's enemies, including Israel which has attacked them numerous times, they want nuclear weapons as protection. I wish no country had nuclear weapons, but I don't believe we have the right to tell other countries what they can and cannot do. What we can do but Trump refuses to do is to use trade and other enticements to make it worthwhile for a country to cooperate rather than trying to force them with war.

(8,097 posts)The US has long painted Iran as a backward country full of not-white non Christian primitive people ruled by despotic religious zealots.
It's economic significance in global trade gets swept under the carpet.
Conversely, Iran has painted the US as a tyrant bent on world domination and trying to exert an undue influence on the Middle East and Iranian domestic matters.
Trump wants the Iranian government to bow down and say 'please sir, can we be friends?'
That's never going to happen.
Historic parallel:
The ancient Roman Empire of the times of togas and Cesars, disintegrated because it was too involved in overseas wars, unexpected resistance from invaded countries, and political turmoil within Rome.
Sounds familiar?
