Celebrating! Cut 32 points of cholesterol and lost 13 pounds in 14 weeks.

dang doctor insisted i should go on statins.
Never even asked about my normal diet which has included TONS of cheese, eggs, butter, cream…
Next day i made two-bean dense salad (tons of veggies) and gazpacho soup, seeds and walnuts; living on that for 2/3 of my meals.
So easy to make and keep in fridge, saving time, money..
I feel much better, too. Less inflammation. Exercises are helping.

Been a great day today for lots of personal reasons.

One day at work, a co-worker celebrated losing 25 pounds.
Eager to know her secret, I asked her how she did it- she said she gave up alcohol. I said, “Well, shit!” 😏😖.

Will have to stand up for eggs though. They are a powercell of energy and healthy benefits.
Obviously to much of anything can be bad for you but none of those foods are necessarily bad by themselves.

Your diet doesn't have much to do with your cholesterol levels. Your body produces most of the cholesterol.

I take a statin, last test was 143 total, 77 bad.

Before that I was usually 250+

Congrats on the weight loss, that's not easy.

Genetics seems to be at work here. The OP's story seems to support the fact that they can. I gave up red meat for a year, exercised every day, lost fifteen pounds, and my cholesterol didn't budge. My doctor then put me on the statins.

Typical version is:
Can of kidney beans, rinsed well and patted dry
Can of black beans, rinsed well and patted dry]
3 - 4 stalks of celery, chopped
1/2 cucumber chopped

Some subset of: chopped black olives, avocado chunks, diced red or yellow peppers, artichokes, capers, pine nuts, green onion

Whisk in a bowl:

Fresh herbs like parsley, mint, dill, oregano, etc.
Olive oil
White vinegar and/or red wine vinegar
Dijon mustard
Juice from 1 or 2 lemons or limes

Mix it together and stick in fridge for a couple hours. Seems good for 5 days.

We have a Weight Loss/Maintenance Group here on DU that you might find to be helpful:

https://democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1154

I do have two dessert recipes in the group. I'm looking at the pages and I do not see my Keto Fathead Dough Pizza recipe so I'll attempt to post that today. I thought that I had posted that recipe but apparently I'm slacking off again!

Also, I follow the Ketogenic way of eating and I only count carbs. I don't keep track of the rest of the macros so I can't provide that information. I also change ingredients or ingredient amounts in recipes because there's generally something that I don't like about the original recipe.

This sounds like a program you can stick with.

I used to eat the typical American diet — high in saturated fat, simple carbohydrates, processed foods, and sodium, and low in fiber. Learning to enjoy fruits and veggies has made a huge difference in my wife’s and my health, and saved us a ton of money in the process!

As time goes on, it gets easier, and you’ll be so glad you stuck with it.

I'm going to recommend a book.

Twice I've lost 40lbs in a month using the author's low carb method.
