Did you ever see the movie "Freaks" from the 1930s. Not a horror film but scary anyway. Walleye May 2025 #1

I would hide behind the sofa and occasionally peek around the side to see the tv screen.

No, not first-run.

It was at a very strange place on Water Street, Eau Claire, in the 70's. The place was an ice cream parlor out front and, most nights, a porn theater in the back. One night per week (Sundays?), they showed classic films and got a family and student crowd.

The owner was reputed to be a complete sleaze bag who cheated the students who worked there. The ones who stayed got even by stealing from the till.

Weird, weird vibe.

The Thing from Another World is a classic. I have it on video and the more I watch it I realize how good the actors really were. I'm surprised the female lead, Margaret Sheridan, wasn't in more movies.

Them, about giant ants in the desert as a result of atomic testing.

Scary. And what’s scarier is I can’t remember if that was from the movie or the book.

My parents had a Reader's Digest version of the book (what can I say? Sometimes one is embarrassed by one's parents!). I know for sure it was in the movie.

Nowadays they've mastered the jump scare but for sheer suspense you can't surpass The Haunting. Over 60 years ago now. The remake was awful.
