I need some cat rescue advice.

On my way home this evening from my office, I saw a little yellow kitten at a neighboring office.

I went back with a cat carrier and a can of kitten food. When I got back, I found the kitten and his momma. Momma has a collar, so she at least has had a home at some point.

I put out the food as bait. They both ate but I couldn't get close enough to touch either. I got within a foot or so of momma but the kitten was much more leery. (I'm not going to take momma home without the kitten. I'm not keen on taking the kitten without the momma.)

I don't think a trap is a good idea because I'm afraid I will catch one but not the other. I'm keeping the carrier in my truck along with more food. I'll see if they are still there tomorrow.

Any tips would be appreciated.

She may not have been there the first time because she was off taking care of other kittens.

I think I'd still try the trap. Even if you only get one of them, I'll bet the other won't go far and you could possibly grab them. Be sure to wear gloves. Please keep us posted.

You probably also want to post this in the Pets forum.

I'll watch for a couple of days and put out food. If there are other kittens, maybe Momma will bring them for food.

If I don't gain some trust, I'll borrow a trap.

Having a soft spot from critters is damned inconvenient.

I will cross post to Pets.

Yull prob hv to go back and forth a few times...leave carrier...door open 24 7. .. only feed when they are Yu.pik up food after. Talk soft move slow.b sure carrier is s covered. eventually Yu can replace with covered trap. It's a diligence game. Thank Yu for caring enough to try.

I'm concerned that the DMV is next door to the office where I saw the cats. There is a lot of opportunity for the carrier going walkies but I know where they're sold.

Go to thrift stores Goodwill etc for carriers... get large size ... I get all mine at thrift stores as they're too expensive in regular stores

I went back this evening at about the same time.

I saw no sign of momma or kitten. I walked around the building looking in the bushes and saw nothing.

The bushes I saw the cats in last night border the DMV parking lot. My theory is that when the end of the month traffic to the DMV started this morning, they bugged out. It may also be that momma had more kittens elsewhere and gathered the ginger kitten and returned him to the rest of the litter.
