I hope to have time to ponder the deeper questions in life - like why the hell does my lawnmower have a headlight?

(2,269 posts)Of course, the people who live in at the earth's poles, have 6 months of darkness.
Naturally they like to keep their soft, spacious lawns cleanly clipped.
Your welcome.

(7,506 posts)Makes perfect sense - thanks chouchou!

(2,269 posts)...rather than mow on a hot afternoon. One can say: "You can always tell the places you've mowed"
Not necessarily. When the grass is not high, sometimes it's rather hard to tell exactly where you've mowed. (lanes)
As you know..if you drop something small on the floor, it's easy to find it if you hold a flashlight close
to the floor itself. The dropped object stands out way better.
I do believe I've beat this horse to death!

(2,546 posts)I prefer to mow in the evening, last hour or so before dark
or sometimes a bit later
because the bees are not active then (lots of clover in my lawn) and moths are flying rather than nestling in the turf. Better for the already oppressed insect populations to mow very late, IMHO.
But yeah, Im a bit eccentric

(2,269 posts)Mine do buzz around morning till the late afternoon. 'bout 1/2 acre
(People across the street put every poison they can get their hands on)
Been here 12 years and I swear, never seen those disgusting birds, bees or wildlife in their yard.
My husband calls it Frankenstein Land.

(24,114 posts)so you can light it up when you take it with you to your next concert. Same way the cool kids hold up their phones with the lights on.
You'll particularly love when this is performed, no doubt:

(7,506 posts)The whole idea of lawns is kinda weird, when as you say there are better alternatives.

(21,587 posts)I am surrounded by people who are slaves to their lawns. One neighbor can take up to 5 hours to mow. Others take 1-2 hours. There is a mower going every day. Used to be March to Oct. Now, it's Feb. to Nov. I'd love to live way north.
I have a lawn co. because of allergies. I told them to put me last on their list and last if they are behind. It takes them 15 minutes to mow and weedwhip my yard. I have a variety of wildlife to enjoy and mixed plants. Some bloom. I have what I want and the free time to enjoy it.
Thank you, kindred spirit.
