Do you ever take cold showers?

Serious question. I just read an article on it. I will if you will...

The mental health benefits of cold water. Growing evidence suggests that cold-water therapy (cold showers, ice baths and outdoor swimming) acts as a form of mindfulness, and can relieve anxiety and depression. Get a medical checkup before trying it out.

The shock of the cold activates the parasympathetic nervous system. If you can stay in the cold until the shock passes, this activates the part of your autonomic nervous system that is for rest and relaxation – lowering your stress and helping you learn to cope with stress in other situations.

Start slowly with a splash of water. A simple way to get started is to splash cold water on your face or dunk your face in cold water.

Take a daily cold shower. With control over the temperature, this allows you to build up your tolerance to the cold. You can use cold showers as your own form of long-term cold therapy, or build up to cold-water swimming.

Take a swim in cold water. For the maximum benefits, try weekly cold-water swimming – start in the warmer months and then work towards colder temperatures. There’s no need to stay in for longer than two or three minutes.

is one way to shock your heart into normal rhythm if you have arrhythmia.

Doesn't work all the time, but if you suffered from WPW like me, try it before getting on the more serious drugs or ( like me ) having the surgery to correct it.

Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is a heart condition present at birth. That means it's a congenital heart defect. People with WPW syndrome have an extra pathway for signals to travel between the heart's upper and lower chambers. This causes a fast heartbeat. Changes in the heartbeat can make it harder for the heart to work as it should.

WPW syndrome is fairly rare. Another name for it is preexcitation syndrome.

The episodes of fast heartbeats seen in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome usually aren't life-threatening. But serious heart problems can occur. Rarely, the syndrome may lead to sudden cardiac death in children and young adults.

Treatment of WPW syndrome may include special actions, medicines, a shock to the heart or a procedure to stop the irregular heartbeats.

someday it will likely kill me. I was born "dead" so... every day I cheat death is a good day.
I was lucky that I survived until there were drugs to treat it, then I survived the trips to the ER to use the shock paddles... and then the new drugs... and finally the SECOND type of corrective surgery ( microwave instead of laser from inside the heart )... and now waiting on the scar tissue formed by the microwave to sluff off and finally kill me... could be anytime now. who knows, maybe I will live long enough for a decent artificial heart.

me famished.

I've been emotionally wiped out lately due to grief. I'm surpised it hasn't left me physically cold. Probably need another ECG.

I'll try cold water therapy again. I've been running hot recently. Maybe it'll help me "reset" somehow.

but i like it on the face and forearms esp. wrists. It cools you off. Also luckily i live in the whites (mountains) so when its really hot the cold brooks warm up enough for me. Brushing your skin activates the same system/

Closest I’ve come is ‘cool’ showers if there’s no AC and it’s hotter than a popcorn fart outside.

Early morning summers here in west central Florida are about 77º-80º. After my walk I jump/saunter into the shower and just use the cold tap on the shower. I'd say the water temp is about ? 74-75º ?
Not really that cold but it's totally refreshing and cools me off right quick.. The first blast is the worst but I get use to it quickly...
YMMV

I take a coolish shower in the evening. Cold with a little bit of warm water mixed in. I don't think my heart could handle a cold shower.

We lived on a Navy base and one of the requirements for using the pool was you had to take a shower before entering the swimming pool. There was an outdoor shower by the entrance and when you stepped onto the wood platform the shower would begin. Of course, it was cold water and we'd stand under for about 30 - 45 seconds and then jump into the pool. The pool's water was much warmer than the shower's water so we'd immediately feel a rise in temperature of about 20 or more degrees. I'll admit, that warm feeling made me feel good.

Can't handle it for very long, but it's supposed to help with spinal pain. Not really sure if it helps, but tiny relief is still relief I suppose
