In Memoriam Jesse Colin Young

From Folk Alley, March18, 2025: https://folkalley.com/in-memoriam-jesse-colin-young-november-22-1941-march-16-2025/

"'Jesse Colin Young, who died on March 16, 2025, was a kind, generous, and gracious man who experienced his own personal darkness—contracting Lyme disease in 2009, losing his California home to a fire, struggling with songwriting for several years—but he always returned to the lights at the center of his life—his family and his music."

From LymeDisease.org, March.18, 2025: https://www.lymedisease.org/jesse-colin-young-death/

Jesse Colin Young, the voice of ’60s anthem “Get Together,” later sang about Lyme disease

Anyone who was around during the late 1960s is sure to remember these words:

“Come on people now…Smile on your brother…Everybody get together…Try to love one another…Right now.”

Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods were not the first to record the song “Get Together,” but their version became a huge hit and helped propel the group to stardom. In 1972, the band broke up, and Young continued on with a successful solo career.

And then, he started having serious physical and psychiatric problems that turned out to be Lyme disease, which he eventually wrote about in a song called “Lymelife.”

That's the start of a very good but long article by Dorothy Kupcha Leland (president of LymeDisease.org) that you'll find at the link, along with video of the song Lyme Life. There's no paywall, so you can read all of it there.

I loved the whole album. I loved that time in my life. I was young and bottomed out but comfortable with it...had a lot of company.

Was just listening to Ridgetop this weekend and sent to my nephew as he is starting to take interest in music from my youth. I'm 72 and we still had the best Music! I was in love with Jesse Collin Young when I was a young girl!

the soundtrack throughout my life. Some songs just settled in. Hundred foot pine trees that just love to dance in the wind.

When I first heard Ridgetop I was completely blown away. (Possibly stoned as well, but what the heck.)
I am 73 and by golly we DID have the best music! What a blessing! Thank You for your comment.

I remember being in the throes of teenage angst and listening to "Darkness, Darkness" on a loop.
