an MRI at Yale New Haven Hospital. Brain scan for dementia.
I'll keep you posted tomorrow if I know anything further on my condition.

(42,391 posts)You must save your demented moments for outside DU, because I've never known you to give the slightest clue as to anything but excellent brain function.
To paraphrase Ralph Kramden, I hope they find nothin' in there.

(36,379 posts)Of course as we age, we question our acuity.
I sometimes find words and names slipping away along with ancient memories, but I attribute it limited storage capacity that was always present.
Speaking only for myself, I wouldn't submit to the test.
I am surprised to learn that the test exists, but I just checked the literature and apparently it is a "thing." From glancing at the abstracts - I'm away from my full literature access - it seems as if MRI may be able to identify Lewy Body dementia but not Alzheimers. (I could be wrong though, it's a very quick search.)
Of course we all wish you the best. If the results prove to be unpleasant I would caution you from turning it into a self fulfilling prophecy. I do see some demented stuff at DU, but never from you.
Good luck. Be well.

(21,933 posts)My husband died from vascular dementia.
I was trying to get them to run an MRI scan on him but the resources aren't there for it where I live so I gave up on that idea.
He was dx'd in Feb. 2022 and was gone on May 12, 2022.
He didn't want any tests and he didn't want to go see a neuropsychiatrist either, not that I blamed him.
Sad reality = dementia.
I don't believe you have this problem CTyankee.

(13,559 posts)That's what the evaluation was when I had a head scan a few months ago. I was a little upset until it was explained that it means they saw nothing wrong.

(74,069 posts)I had MRIs for brain, cervical, & thoracic spine done In June.
Because they were both straight & with contrast, I was in the tube for over 2 hours.
Hope it goes faster for you.
