our FIRST good chance to make-things-go-right was to reelect Jimmy Carter. A good man, a good heart, trying to do right for the long term.

Our LAST (so far, hopefully) good chance was to elect Kamala Harris.

I truly hope that wasn’t truly our last chance.

Or, 1981? when Jack Welch became CEO of General Electric. If I remember correctly, it was Welch who began the destruction of U.S. manufacturing by firing Americans and sending those jobs to third world countries.
