Cleveland Rocks... and Apparently, So Does Towelie

First the Rock Hall, now Towelie. Cleveland just keeps rolling up the legends.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A number of notable celebrities are from or have ties to Cleveland, Ohio, including Bob Hope, Halle Berry, Drew Carey, Paul Newman, and more.

And now added to that list is Towelie, the recurring “South Park” cartoon character that debuted on the hit Comedy Central TV show during season 5 in 2001.

Towelie, a talking towel that is known for frequent marijuana use, was revealed to be from Cleveland, Ohio, during South Park’s most recent episode, “Sickofancy,” on Wednesday.

In the episode, Towelie travels to Washington, D.C., to lobby on behalf of federal marijuana legalization. Randy Marsh, the father of main character Stan Marsh, prepares Towelie’s travel and security documents for White House clearance, which reveal Towelie – full name Stephen McTowelie – was born August 8, 2001, in Cleveland, Ohio.
