Whenever I see a mother cat or dog with her litter, I am so touched by how much they love and care for their babies. They seem to all have that motherly instinct. Sadly, not all human mothers do.

If it were up to me, parenting would require a license after passing a class in child growth, development and psychology. The ability to juxtapose genitalia is not a sufficient qualification.

Momma cats rock!

I get heartsick just reading about it online. We have a case here in the Metro Detroit area about a woman who left her children all alone in a house for five years and would have someone drop off food for them on the porch every three or four days. They had no contact with people, nobody to care for them, no school, no friends, nothing. I think she's out on bail. They just had a hearing and she was there, hoping to regain custody. Sickening.

God bless you for your work.

And yes, momma cats do rock!

6. Fortunately, I did not personally see egregious situations like that...

...but a lot of stupid stuff, like a 17 yr old mom who was unhappy that she couldn't go out and sunbathe because her baby always needed something from her. Or the mother of an 11 yr old girl who was still assisting her daughter to clean herself after using the bathroom - the child was not disabled in any way.

I decided fairly early in my career that "if I ran the world," I would put removeable contraceptive devices into everyone before puberty that could not be removed before age 25 - screw around all you want, but don't make any new human beings until you are emotionally mature enough to care for them.
