I am such a Trekkie. . .

Tuned into CNN during coverage of the Artemis launch, saw the name "Miles O'Brien" in one of the chyrons, (he's a journalist who specializes in science, technology and aerospace) and my first thought was, "The Enterprise's Transporter Chief?!"

After all, we wouldn't want to disrespect the real Miles O'Brien.

A small aside to my Tupac faux pas, someone recently recommended that I listen to his track, "Dear Mama", which I did, on Youtube. Then , I listened to two more of his songs.

Shortly thereafter, my internet algorithm had a minor stroke.

And apologies for the confusion because I (once again) responded to the wrong post.

Someone noted that the moon may be prove a valuable source for a mineral called tritium, which is used in fission reactors. My first thought: Dilithium crystals, without which the Enterprise's warp drive is inoperable.

And to this day, sometimes when I take a swallow of a very refreshing drink, I will make an exaggerated noise of appreciation and say, "Ah, Tranya!"

The things that make a lingering impression on a young mind. . .

One of the newer encryption schemes proposed as a standard against possible quantum computer attacks is called CRYSTALS-Dilithium.

You don't think some of those math nerds are Trek fans, do you?

...nurse corps, I went to Star Trek conventions. One in Houston, and one in New Orleans. Had a great time. Gene Roddenberry was the keynote speaker at one of them - can't remember which. I got my picture taken with Jimmy Doohan, and also with Walter Koenig.

In the pediatric clinic at the Air Force Base, we were allowed to wear colored lab coats to make us look less scary to our little patients. I had a pink one, a yellow one, and a blue one. 'we could also put some sort of decoration on the lapels of the coats. I had a science officer patch sewn onto the blue lab coat. There was a small Trek memorabilia shop in San Antonio named Star Base One, and that is where I had purchased it.

One day, I was in one of the hospital elevators, and someone noticed the science officer patch, thought it was a military decoration and asked what it had been awarded for. I explained that it was from Star Trek and why I could get away with having it on my lab coat. The person asked where I'd gotten it, and without thinking how strange it was going to sound, I replied, "Star Base One." I got a very strange look, and figured the questioner probably thought I should be on my way to the psych unit.

Live Long and Prosper!

I have only gone to three Star Trek conventions in my life.

I won everything they had... trivia, costume contests, 'Trekardy' (yes, like 'Jeopardy'), you name it.

Made the local papers.

I am such a nerd.
