The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThis is so hugely important for me to say.
AT NO POINT THAT I CAN REMEMBER HAS A SINGLE DU MEMBER SAID ANYTHING MEAN, DISPIRITING, ACUSATORY, OR IN ANY OTHER WAY DEMEANED WHAT I'VE GONE THROUGH THESE LAST ALMOST 3 YEARS.
THAT IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF THEM ALL, BECAUSE IT'S STILL ONGOING.
YOU'VE TOUCHED ME A THOUSAND TIMES AND THEN SOME, AND TODAY, I FEEL YOU ALL TOUCH ME AT THE SAME TIME. MY GOD, HOW COULD I HAVE BEEN SO BLESSED, BECAUSE I CERTAINLY DIDN'T DESERVE THAT.
AS I REFLECT AND ANSWER SO MANY KIND WORDS YOU'VE SENT RECENTLY, PLEASE KNOW I'M SITTING HERE CRYING YET AGAIN AS IT DAWNS ON ME THAT I'VE RECEIVED A LIFETIMES WORTH OF GRACE IN THESE LAST TWO YEARS WITHOUT A SINGLE NEGATIVE WORD.
FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME LATELY I AM MOVED TO THE CORE OF MY BEING.
THANK YOU
LOVE, JOHN MCKUSICK

(6,492 posts)I think what really dawned on me was how often you all did for me what I desire to do for others, make a moment count, make a moment special, as in meaningful. And hopefully, make it matter to another.

(72,422 posts)... I considered quitting reading or learning new things because I didn't think it would have meaning if I was one foot on the platform, one foot on the train. I was afraid to ask the question, not because I was afraid of dying but because I would become irrelevant and a piece of trivia: just a vague distant memory.
DU came to my rescue. Seven years later, here I am. No small part of it because DU answered when I reached out. Bless you on your journey, too, brother! You know how to get in touch with me.

(17,600 posts)I didnt really follow your path though I was keeping an eye out for a few other DUers who said they were facing economic hardship or other problems and dont seem to post anymore: MLF (who I hope is not homeless), wandering harper, TSexile (she was about my age and seemed to have some similar issues) and Dennis Donovan.
Many others I think are just on at different hours.
DU has helped me psychologically. I was at the peak of my misanthropy 6 years ago when I came back and now I am, for me, back to the usual level
No..people here are nice. Good crowd..and nice and quarrelsome rather than those creepy, fawning bots
.
There is something chilling about them. They remind me of this more than Gebrus stochastic parrots:

I hope you have a decent time ahead.

(18 posts)Democratic Underground is the soul of America; the people in this space care about one another. They share their gut feelings, their anger, their compassion and always make others feel welcome and unafraid to just be.
I have been coming here over 20 years. I post very little, but read all of you everyday. And so many days, I have needed this space to know I wasn't alone.
This is where the good Americans live. Thank you for the decades

Every time I spot your name, John, it makes me so happy knowing that after such struggle and adversity, there really was light at the end of that tunnel for you. Your tender gratefulness is a blessing on all of us! 🩷😊

Why I am a Democrat.

short version.
Because Democrats have compassion for others.
corrollaries:
When every person
a. is guaranteed rights, opportunity, and equity,
b. can make a good living,
c. is respected,
then all benefit and the nation benefits.
Government invests in its citizens.
Labor and innovation create wealth.
Productivity gains are shared with those who are less blessed than others.
Government is by the people and for the people.
The legal system protects rights, especially of minorities.
In short: equality, honor and fairness.
