A cute young guy recognized my name and said he had been following my photography for years. I didn’t think anybody even looked long enough to read the photo credit

...I slowed down reading it at the end to make it last.

The title is "Profit & Loss." Self-published on amazon. A story about homelessness.

Were sort of hanging around outside the school garden gate, and when I left to go to my car, they shyly came up to me and their "spokesperson" said, "We wanted to tell you you're pretty."

Many years ago, when I was starting out as an elementary school teacher, we had to do the dreaded lunchroom duty. There was a strict no talking policy to expedite the time children spent having lunch. One little boy, with big eyes, held up his hand and said "Miss H-------, are you a princess?" I smiled and said "Yes, yes I am". I'll never forget the looks on the children's faces.

I had been stationed in South Korea for about three months and being the SNCO of the section, I streamlined how we supported everyone. I had to brief a new independent duty medical technician (IDMT) from across base on how we would support him and the procedures/paperwork to request medical supplies. He was accompanied by IDMT he was replacing and after the briefing, the old IDMT said he wished I had arrived about six months ago because the only reason he didn't request an extension to his assignment was because of how hard it was for him to get support from us.

bopping around in mini-skirts..."Young lady, you're not beautiful...........but you're lovely. And that will last much much longer."

I was kind of miffed until I thought about it.... and fell in love with the sound of that.

Several of the Scouts said similar things to me along the lines of, “I wish my parents would listen to me like you do.”

They were compliments that broke my heart.
