I never could get the hang of pastels. Everything I tried turned out to be a smeary mess.

I’d say you definitely have the technique and the talent. This is just beautiful.

The water pool is glass like while the water fall is lace in motion. The lichen looks spongy and touchable. The light slipping in is just right. You’ve done a fantastic job.

The color of the mounting is somewhat off. Something lighter would be better.

I'm not sure I agree. the black and the brown used are both in the image, and the combination makes me feel as if I am coming out of a cave to that scene, and I find that uplifting.

There are many ways of selecting matting and framing, and they are not always equally good, but sometimes they are good for different purposes. If the artist wanted to make the image look bigger, you are correct - that combo doesn't to that.

I own a small cottage on Keuka, and we always know our long drive from the greater Chicago area is just about over when we see the sign for Watkins Glen on Route 54.

Plenty of gravel roads through the vineyards. Seismic exploration in the winters was mostly painful as I recall.

...and Hammondsport. We have a great view of the bluff. My favorite vineyard is Bully Hill.

Looks like those wineries there are pretty much abandoned from my Google Earth automobile. It was a busy place in 1975. Time passes. Bully Hill indeed. Best scenery around the area. To be that young again.

When I sold my last house, the gal who bought it asked me who staged my
home for sale. I was surprised and said, I didn't stage it. This is just how
my house looks. She couldn't believe it.

That said, I am not near as good a professional designer of course.

As is said, I don’t know much about art, but I know what moves me. This moved me.

The composition and colours are perfect. It's not at all hard for me to look at it and see it as one of my wife's....which, for me, is high praise indeed. When she finished high school, she was tracked down and recruited by an art college. She declined, in favour of social work, which she also loved. Still does.

She has a little niche now, doing the occasional commission, selling a piece here and there through businesses willing to hang them, but her main source of (admittedly small) revenue is pet portraits.

I say the foregoing as a way of underlining my assertion that comparing your work to hers is not a pedestrian, half-baked compliment.. Nice work!!!

my Mom had a painting of a path through the woods. I would look at that for what seemed like hours and daydreamed where the path would lead me.
