Increased economic uncertainty might be one reason that more students are enrolling in classes than have in previous years, Ms. Frailing said, with many noting that learning how to make their own clothes or tune up their thrift store finds would help them save money. Roughly a third of clothing purchases in the United States in the past year were secondhand an increase from previous years in large part because consumers are looking to save money, according to a recent report by Capital One.

(1,405 posts)a pair of shorts and oh so proud to wear them!
Since then Ive made from scratch my own wedding dress, baby clothes, my daughters prom dresses, mens suit jackets, my dazzling competitive dance roller skating costumes and nursing uniforms, thick drapes, quilts, crocheted blankets, and on and on. So much fun!
To this day, sewing is my therapy when I need to tune out (which is often these days).
So glad to see the new trend, and strongly approve.

(25,929 posts)My mom was a trained dress designer. Though she didn't stay long in the field, we, my sis and I ended up with some wonderful itens; thought at times a few were ? too different, maybe too sophisticated at times from what other kids were wearing currently. She was also an excellent sewer, and could tweak the heck out of things.
She made a wonderful Spring coat for me, a really fun mini skirt with a faux padded belt, a sophisticated prom dress for JHS were my 3 favorite pieces.
She hated making men's shirts but she did one for my dad.
Fun memories!
