Related: About this forumThe Knack - My Sharona (Colombia-released 1979 long version w/ full epic guitar solo, + rare studio footage)
This release has the full guitar solo by Berton Averre, which is one one of the greatest in power pop history IMHO. There is another alternate take that pushes the solo further forward (that album is also a Colombia release, but that track is less balanced IMHO, with a shite fade-out). Sharona Alperin, the girl on the cover of the single and obviously whom the song is about, was the lead singer, Doug Fieger's, real life girlfriend at the time.
Label: EMI 4461020
Format: Vinyl, 12", Blue Transparent
Country: Colombia
Released: 1979
Genre: Rock
Style: Pop Rock/Power Pop

(5,621 posts)it was everywhere! Thanks for posting Celerity.
Just looked this band up and the lead singer and leader developed 2 brain tumors, which eventually led to his demise at 54.
He left a legacy with this song.

(74,063 posts)It's not the technique that makes the solo great. It's not technically difficult in any way.
The excellence of it is based in how it goes places and builds.
It starts very melodically; it's singable. The it gets more animated with quick repeating phrases, then it gets frenetic, then it ends abruptly.
Very well-crafted in all regards. It's a "smart" solo.
