Layla has a liner note from Tom Dowd telling us to listen to it loud.
I never has an issue with following that advice.

I was a good kid, so my parents provided a lot of latitude. I listened fairly loud.
If I wanted it louder, I had headphones. Not quite the same as feeling the bass, but a good approximation.

Professor, I found a really good set of headphones at amazon. In amazon.com search for
Sony ZX Series Wired On-Ear Headphones - Blue (MDR-ZX310AP). On sale now for $14.99.

I've got good headphones for home recording, so I'm set. But if I didn't, I'd be tempted.

Thanks for the reminder. I used to play Nantucket Sleigh Ride after I came home from a night of partying, good and buzzed.
