When the young were trying to live their whole life packed into a short time. The possibility of your literal number coming up ( the lottery draft) was a day to day thought. Many had short lives, to die young was a "thing" then. I believe that brought a real passion to the surface which resulted in artistic creativity in all the arts. Music, movies, stage all medium in fine arts were pretty intense. There were also many changes in technology which brought new sounds ( moog synthesizer, electric guitars, multitrack mixing ) which brought us psychedelic music , folk music , hard rock and glam rock.
