1973 at Mike Nesmith's place/studio in California he recorded and produced this with Matthews. Mike is one of a couple of guys on acoustic guitar here along with Red Rhodes on pedal steel. Nesmith and Matthews on vocals. According to Nesmith they multi-tracked themselves doing several different harmony parts.

Sort of what I imagine would have happened if Crosby and Nash had joined the Buffalo Springfield instead of branching off with Stills.

and imagine that he had some rewarding music making given his creative license back. And to hear Mathews doing something like this. The blend of talent is brilliant here.

Always loved Matthews' version and still do.

But this live version (and backstory) by Young is very cool.
