Oasis - Wonderwall (Music video + Manchester, July 11, 2025 + Noel, Howard Stern show, 1997 + Liam, Knebworth 2022)

Posting this song, which as far as I can tell has never been posted in an OP here, after seeing this article today:

Oasis' Biggest Song Is Actually One of the Gallagher Brothers' Least Favorite
https://collider.com/oasis-biggest-song-wonderwall-gallagher-brothers-least-favorite/

For most bands, there will always be that one specific song that's synonymous with their legacy. For Oasis, it goes without question that it's "Wonderwall." It is undoubtedly the biggest song the English rock band has ever produced and one of the most iconic tracks in the history of alternative rock. However, despite the immense success the track achieved, it has also become a target for criticism, largely due to its overexposure in the years since its release. But it's not just listeners who have mixed feelings about the song; even the Gallagher brothers (Liam and Noel Gallagher) themselves aren't entirely fond of it. To say it's their least favorite would be to take it lightly. Liam has even gone as far as to say the song makes him want to “gag.”

Much more at the link, about the song that was their only Top 10 hit in the US.

Wikipedia article on it, and how successful it was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderwall

1. I had not followed Liam at all since that band split up.

I heard that his voice was shot. Knebworth 22 - Obviously not.

3. Re the Knebworth video - yes, he did sound good there. One reason I chose it. The other was his asking

the audience if they wanted to hear Wonderwall, and if they're sure, which amused me more after reading about how much he dislikes the song.

4. Wonderwall - The nuance and depth when Noel sang it was a revelation.

Liam belts it out. Noel sings it.

5. Yes. Noel's great there. Unfortunately he later decided to copy the Ryan Adams cover of the song,

which IMO wasn't nearly as good, so I didn't use any of those later performances.

This is the Ryan.Adams cover, which I really don't like. It doesn't sound nearly as geniuine to me as Noel singing it the way he originally wrote it.

6. This is interesting. Noel has said conflicting things about whether Liam hates Wonderwall.

I just ran across this on YouTube:

That was before Oasis broke up in 2009.

Then in 2020 he said this on SiriusXM:

https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/noel_gallagher_says_liam_hates_wonderwall_doesnt_understand_why_oasis_hit_is_so_popular.html

"My daughter is now 20 years of age and she gets people coming up to her, saying, 'No way! Did your dad actually write the song 'Wonderwall'?!'

"And she'll say, 'Yeah,' and she gets mobbed over it and she wasn't even fucking there. It's a strange thing because we didn't perform that song for a long time because we could never get it right.

"And like I said, Liam [Gallagher, vocals] hated it; I'm not sure the rest of the band were too keen on it. You know, why that song took hold on the planet the way that it did is crazy; there's no rhyme or reason for it - it just is.

"It's mad when you think of it, and I try not to think of it, you know - it's just one of my songs."

We could never get it right...

I'm not sure exactly what he's referring to, but there are a number of videos of Liam flubbing the lyrics over the years, including this past weekend in Scotland.
