(77,065 posts)My dad liked his partner Paul Desmond more than any sax player other than Stan Getz.
My dad dug all that cool jazz stuff, so I was probably 5 or 6 the first time I heard this sing.
Later (7th or 8th grade), one of the local channels used it as the theme for their Sunday afternoon movies.
That whole album was designed to explore unusual time signatures. Some awfully cool stuff on there.

(72,370 posts)... I have had only two or three violins, added two or three pieces of other percussion to the Tabla - mridangam, or dholak, maybe a idiophone like aghatam and khanjari, used the sitar more, liked the guitar and I think the bass I saw in the booth should have been more prominent.
I get it: this is a network/studio orchestra. It was a bit of a disappointment that all those strings were playing the same melody piece over and over, almost just sawing it out. I looked at the players and it was obvious there were some extremely talented violinists with seriously good instruments. I wish they could have stood a bit instead of being melded into the herd. I would also question the engineer's mic-ing choices.
All that said, it was plenty good and I'll be listening to it more. Thanks for posting it!
