These flowers are the essence of summer to me.

Orange tiger lilies.

Ditch or not, I've always thought they were beautiful. You knew it was mid summer when they appeared. Diamond_Dog Jul 2025 #2
In our area they call them day lilies. cksmithy Jul 2025 #3
I've heard day lilies, too Diamond_Dog Jul 2025 #5
Lots of those blooming around here all of a sudden with the heat and rain I guess Walleye Jul 2025 #4
And they just grow wild. Only the orange ones for some reason. Diamond_Dog Jul 2025 #6
I wasn't really aware that they grow wild, although I see them on the side of the road a lot Walleye Jul 2025 #7

Mom called them "ditch lillies" which is found a little derogatory but now I know why

That's how long they last in our summer heat. They are very pretty and we have a few are in my back yard, right now.

Sophie looks great too!

We have them out here, but not in that color. Ours are either white or yellow. And we call them day lillies, since they're gone in a day.

I love them in all colors. My Grandmother called the wild orange ones “tiger lilies”.
